LISTEN
A carefully captured Fazioli* F212 grand piano
Recorded at Riksmixningsverket Studio in Stockholm, Sweden
Approx. 4 GB of multi-sampled sounds
Recorded using a Neve* 8068 64-channel console
Captured using spot mics on hammers and strings
Overhead and two secondary room ambiences
Adjustable hammer release and pedal noise controls
Pedals: Sustain, Una Corda (soft pedal) and Sostenuto
Adjustable MIDI controller velocity response
With up to three years in the making, each instrument that is wheeled out of the Fazioli* shop in Sacile, Italy, is truly a testament of ultimate dedication to craftsmanship and detail.
The F212, which was sampled for EZkeys 2, is a medium-sized instrument that produces a slightly softer timbre compared to the larger concert grands.
Overall, it has a balanced and responsive tone as well as a dynamic range that can produce the entire scope of expressiveness – from the thunderously punchy down to the feathery light. This makes it an ideal instrument for broad songwriting and recording studio use.

The EZkeys 2 core library instrument was miked to offer a broad selection of options, tones and ambiences for use across the different presets included.
Hammers
Strings
Piano player (overhead)
Room ambience
Window reflection ambience
1. Hammers. To capture the strike and impact of the tone, a stereo pair of Thuresson* CM402s large diaphragm microphones were positioned right above the hammer mechanism. This gives you a very natural and detailed representation of the inherent body of the instrument.
2. Strings. To capture the immense sustain and resonance of the piano, a stereo pair of Royer* R-121 ribbon mics were placed above the strings. This pair of mics produces a warm and ambient but slightly less pronounced attack compared to that of the hammers.
3. Piano player (overhead). To capture the most natural tone you’d get if sitting at the piano, a pair of DeGeer* Manibus large diaphragm tube microphones were positioned as if pointed over the shoulders of the player. These microphones were picked for their extreme transparency and ability to capture the natural direct ambience of the piano.
4. Room ambience. An AKG* C24 stereo large diaphragm tube microphone placed high up to the side of the piano captures the natural room reverberation. This is a common microphone technique used when recording classical piano.
5. Window reflection ambience. To capture a slightly more narrow frequency range as well as a more distant-sounding ambience, a pair of Neumann* KM84 small diaphragm condenser microphones were placed facing the control room window, picking up the diffusion bouncing back from the hard-surface glass. This pair of mics adds a new dimension of depth when combined with the spot mics.
Expertly crafted tones, at your fingertips.
With an end-goal of offering maximum versatility, the EZkeys 2 core sound library offers a wealth of ready-made mixes for anything from the purely acoustic to the synthetically layered and the outrageously saturated.
Need to tweak? Based on the complex network of effects used behind the scenes in all EZ Line products, each preset includes its own unique set of sound-altering parameters. With these controls, you can easily alter, tweak or fine-tune each setting to perfectly suit your mix.
A software instrument isn’t complete if it can’t be played. That’s why we’ve invested just as much effort in making sure that EZkeys 2 offers an unrivaled experience for the piano player as for someone who has no intention of using a MIDI keyboard. Close your eyes, play away and you’ll hear it as much as you’ll feel it.

A room made for piano.
Housed in a 150-year-old naval warehouse and beautifully situated right on the water at the inlet of the Stockholm river, Riksmixningsverket (or RMV Studio, as it’s regularly called) is a proper gem of the studio scene in Sweden’s capital.
With rustic ceiling beams, both wood and stone wall surfaces as well as a soft hardwood floor that acts like a cushioning membrane, the main room at RMV has a one-of-a-kind ambience that is vibrant but still retains the unfiltered essence of any acoustic instrument – particularly the piano.

Q: I own an earlier version of EZkeys. Will I automatically get a free upgrade?

A: EZkeys 2 is not a free update, it’s a completely new program including a host of new features as well as a new core sound and MIDI library. As an existing owner of any previously released “Regular” EZkeys title, you will however qualify for the generously priced upgrade.
Q: Which version of EZkeys do I need to qualify for the EZkeys 2 upgrade pricing?

A: If you own a “Regular” version of any previously released EZkeys title, you qualify. EZkeys MIDI packs are not included in this category.
Q: If I buy a second hand license of the legacy version of EZkeys, will I qualify for the EZkeys 2 upgrade?
A: Yes, if you have a registered license of any regular EZkeys title, second hand or not, you qualify for the upgrade pricing.
Q: Is the upgrade the exact same as the “full” version in terms of content?

A: Yes, 100% the same.
Q: I don’t get the upgrade option/pricing when I place EZkeys 2 in the cart.
A: You need a minimum one (1) previously released “Regular” title of EZkeys to qualify for the upgrade. Please make sure you are logged in to the account to which the qualifying title is registered and the option to select the upgrade should be visible. If you still have any issues or questions, feel free to contact support here.
Q: What will happen to EZkeys (1) upon the release of EZkeys 2?

A: On release day in May, 2023, all “Regular” EZkeys titles were permanently discontinued and removed from both our online store and from retail outlets currently carrying it. You may still see retailers sell remaining stock beyond release in May, 2023, though. If you purchase a “Regular” version of EZkeys from a reseller after discontinuation or have a yet-to-be-registered license purchased online, you will still be able to register your product.
Q: How is the EZkeys 2 business model different from that of the previous version?
A: EZkeys 2 will follow the exact same principle as our other EZ Line products, meaning it will come with a predetermined sound and MIDI library. You need to own the core product (EZkeys 2) in order to run expansion content from the upcoming EKX format.
Q: What is the new EKX expansion format and how will it differ from the previous EZkeys Sound Expansion libraries?
A: EKX expansions produced beyond the EZkeys 2 release will offer a format tailor-made for the new EZkeys 2 framework and come with a custom MIDI content unique to each expansion.
Q: Can I purchase legacy EZkeys Sound Expansions after EZkeys 2 is released and will they work in the new software?
A: Yes, all our previously released Sound Expansions will still be available, but in the new EKX format. All previously released titles will work within EZkeys 2 (and EZkeys 1).
Q: Will you still update the previous “Regular” versions of EZkeys?

A: To further the development of the new generation of EZkeys, the legacy format will not be updated or developed beyond the release of EZkeys 2 (other than to ensure basic operation during the transitional phase). EKX expansions will be maintained and updated to ensure full operation with the EZkeys 2 format.
Q: Will you continue to produce Sound Expansion content in the legacy EZkeys format?

A: We will only be producing EZkeys expansion content for the new standard, meaning EKX expansions.
Q: I already own EZkeys and one or several Sound Expansions. What happens to these now?
A: To ensure a smooth transition, any “Regular” EZkeys or EZkeys Sound Expansion that you own has been converted to the new EKX format and is available for download from the Product Manager.
Q: What will these Sound Expansion to EKX updates offer?
A: They will include general fixes as well as graphics tailored for the new EZkeys format. No new content will be added.
Q: What happens to the projects in which I have used legacy versions of EZkeys?
A: EZkeys 2 does not overwrite any earlier version. As long as you don’t uninstall your legacy EZkeys titles, all projects remain intact. Should you wish to open a legacy project file in EZkeys 2, use “Import EZkeys 1 Project” located in the File menu.
Q: Will my EZkeys MIDI packs work in EZkeys 2?
A: Yes, all your already installed EZkeys MIDI content will work and show up in the EZkeys 2 browser. You may need to install updates (which will be found in the Toontrack Product Manager).
Q: I can’t log in because I forgot my password or which email I used. Can you help?

A: If you forgot your password, please find information on this page. If you don’t remember which email address you used, please contact our support team!
Q: Is EZkeys 2 compatible with my system?

A: Toontrack’s software has been updated to work on the latest macOS Ventura as well as Windows 11. It works on both Intel and Apple silicon systems as well as with all major music software/DAW applications, such as Pro Tools, Cubase, GarageBand, Logic Pro, Reaper, etc. EZkeys 2 can also be run standalone.
