Longtime Toontrack user and artist Mauricio Weimar brought his e-kit powered by Superior Drummer 3 and an insane amount of talent to national TV – and made it to the finals in Norway’s “Got Talent” format! We checked in to ask some quick questions!
First of all, congratulations on making the finals! Your semi-final performance was quite spectacular. Without giving too much away, how do you plan to top it for the finals?
Thanks! I promised the judges that if made to the semi-finals I would incorporate Norwegian elements in it, so Grieg’s music was perfect! Now, for the finals I still have a very big card to play. Most of the people have no idea, only the ones closer to me know what I’m talking about. I don’t wanna spoil it, but it has to do with African music and exotic instruments.
In many parts of the world, the “Got Talent” format is huge. How is the interest in Norway?
It is quite popular here. I did not know that before I was participating. People are really following the show, which makes it even more fun for me.
How did you come up with the idea of auditioning for this contest in the first place?
I was invited by the cast of Norske Talenter on Instagram. I was surprised because it was not something I was planning to do at all! I decided to take a chance for fun and it turns out I am in the finals. It’s crazy, actually.
For your semi-final performance, you brought your (huge!) e-kit and ran it through Superior Drummer 3. Which sounds did you use?
That’s right. I used my own kit with Superior Drummer 3. And I tell you what… everyone was really excited about that. It worked like a charm, the drum sound was super powerful and clean. For me, personally, was super nice because I felt like playing home. The sounds I used on the performance are from the Death & Darkness SDX.
