FIVE QUESTIONS TO… TOM DALGETY.

Since the Fields of Rock SDX was released, has it found its way into any of your work?
It certainly has. I used it extensively for the writing and demoing on Creeper and The Cult. And I’ve used the percussion library on almost every record I’ve made since it came out!

How valuable has it been to have your own sounds recorded in one of your favorite studios at arm’s reach, 24/7, for these kinds of scenarios?
It’s been amazing. Just to instantly have the kind of sounds that I gravitate towards within Superior Drummer 3 has been amazingly useful.

Out of all the kits in the SDX, has one emerged as a favorite now that you’ve had the chance of putting it to work over time?
That’s a tough one. I think I’ve probably used the “Godfather” and “Workhorse” kits the most. The low, dead thump from the Godfather is incredible and the Workhorse is great for more modern-sounding stuff. I love the toms from that kit.

You’ve done a pretty impressive string of albums lately. Tell us more!
Yeah, it’s been a busy couple of years. I made a record with one of my all-time favorite bands, The Cult! And I also made my third album with The Pixies (“Doggerel”) which is fantastic. More recently, I produced and co-wrote an album with Creeper – a big, bombastic concept album about vampires. That was tons of fun! I also I did “Sunrise on Slaughter Beach” by Clutch and have been doing a lot of mixing for two great new UK bands: Green Lung and Tigercub.

What’s next on your agenda?
Work-wise I’m sworn to secrecy! But I will be catching up on some sleep…

Tom with Green Lung at his own Psalm studio…

…and here with Creeper in the echo chamber at Rockfield!
