We caught up with the one and only Mattias IA Eklundh to talk briefly about two of his latest creations and how Toontrack fit into this universe!
Toontrack: What was the idea behind this track? And tell us a little about the production (in particular, the drums and the bass)!
IA: “Flummoxed” is originally an exercise from my annual Freak Guitar Camp. It’s a 17/4 triplet study as well as a konnakol and harmonics exercise in 1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 7/4, 8/4, 9/4, 10/4, then reversed and other stuff.
I used the “Metall” kit from The Metal Foundry SDX and stacked Bob Rock’s “Hybrid Kick” from The Rock Foundry SDX on both kicks as well as the “SD59 Fat Snare” from the Electronic portion of the Superior Drummer 3 core library on the snare. The bass is EZbass “Driven – Pick” from the Metal EBX. Everything from Toontrack simply works in a musical context and I find it plain amazing.
Toontrack: What was the idea behind this track? And tell us a little about the production (in particular, the drums and the bass)!
IA: Well, I just got inspired by messing around with the excellent “Dirty Money” kit from the “Live Room” in The Rooms of Hansa SDX and decided to write electronic metal in 31/8 with some pulverized konnakol on top.
Besides the mentioned kit, I also used EZkeys Hybrid Harp as well as the “Metal Chug – Pick” preset from EZbass. Lovely, lovely, very useful stuff.
