Best way to recreate this is indeed 16th notes as centre hits with the backbeat and accents as rimshots.
I can’t really relate to your midi woes.
I use Superior in Logic and edit the provided midi. Or program my own using a keyboard or v-drums.
I use Maschine extensively. Sooooo easy to edit pre-programmed grooves, or create your own grooves in Maschine.
Just use Google.
There are lots of online retailers and their specials come and go on a monthly basis.
Time & Space are doing a killer deal on Superior for example.
Yes, he mostly plays everything live, but there are definitely sampled drums on some songs.
What I do is treat EZkeys as a virtual instrument.
I’ve done quite a bit just using EZkeys piano sound played by my midi in Ableton.
I’m not sure what you would gain by dropping your midi into the EZkeys midi player?
I could be wrong, but I think there is resistance from many studios to having their rooms sampled.
Already, the best studios realise the value of their sound to sample producers and have either done exclusive deals, eg with Native Instruments ‘Abbey Road, or Ilio ‘Oceanway’, or will ask for detailed explanation on what you are planning to sample before they will agree to book the session.
As regular recording dies a slow death, both celebrity drummers and well known studios are realising the power they hold with their signature sounds.
That’s why you rarely see products like Steve Gadd at Electriclady Studios.
You are claiming a fact which has apparently been refuted:
ORIGINAL: Scott
The MIDI content in the demo is the same as the full product.
The audio demos are based on the MIDI included with the product.
Infuzed, you were obviously a bit harsh with Juicy, now I think you are being a bit harsh on EZkeys. A ‘white elephant’? It’s a brand new product, only been in existence for a few weeks. Expect more content and expansions to follow.
If you don’t think the initial release has enough in it however, that’s an ok opinion to have.
Regarding discussion on EZkeys, it has been extensive.
Have you tried the forum search function?
There is much discussion in the ‘other pre-sales’ and ‘feedback and requests’ forums.
Plus there are two dedicated EZkeys forums which you possibly can’t see until you buy and register the product.
The midi libraries that come with Superior are just pre-made midi.
In Logic, drag and drop the Superior midi groove onto your virtual instrument track then edit as any other midi info.
You can do anything: change velocity, add and subtract notes, move notes around.
Scott is right.
I’ve been influenced by the great sampled drum records – Beck, Portishead, Air, The Roots.
One thing C&V is designed to do is capture some of those sounds.
Small room, close mic’ed, short bass drums and damped snares.
I’m no computer expert, but it looks like you put EZmix in a Steinberg folder, and Pro Tools isn’t a Steinberg product.
I agree with you.
When you’re on the session it’s too easy to go for clean perfection, and forget you might have set out for a few imperfections.
I do think we went a bit rough with C&V, but not loud and punky I agree.
When it first came out a few people posted on this forum they thought the drums were all distorted to Pro Tools, but it was actually just the sound of the grainy EMI console.
