Ah Mr Cory,
Yet another fine example of a nice mixed and delivered track, if I may add that your mixes seem to be lacking that sort of 125-300 hz “ummph” but if I’m correct you’re emulating another’s mix? Either way good stuff, always sounds nice and clean
Kind regards

yeah i use those guitas(charvells)what are you using e-metal or the foundry?
Gotta love CHarvel’s, I do miss playing a SanDimas I had access to years ago, and lets not forget the plethora of awesome 80’s shredders sporting them alongside Carvin guitars.
We use metal foundary, and an overdub on the snare, basically using the Tomas Haake snare for the top end crack and a ludwig black beauty I think, as the bottom end resonance, we do some processing inside superior, (really takes a long time to tweak the bleeds) and then we go out to 6x cubase tracks, which then go down to a group track which has some parallel compression on it.
If you want to know the specifics, lemme know and I’ll square it with the guys and post up some details.

I do not listen to much metal these days, but I listened to the first two songs and I liked it a lot.
Excellent performance from everyone. Nice production too.
I´ll come back and listen more to your music later./Anders
Hey man, that’s really kind of you, we do work really hard on the music and for someone more outside the genre can appreciate it then to us the hard work has definitely paid off.
Kind regards

but anyways i do appreciate the feedback i was just frustrated that ive posted on here before and get few to no responses while the djent(another contemporary metal trend thats really not worthy of being labeled a sub genre at all at this point imo) stuff gets all the attention.
Hey man that’s totally cool and truth be told I gotta agree, I love some of the djent stuff, but what happened to jaw dropping heavy hitting “riffs”? Or is that just down to the thrash genre where no-one seems to be pulling out the stops anymore?
I gotta say something though, a polished mix in my eyes is not the age-old “loudness war” it’s about getting clarity, not just from eq’s etc but phasing, doubled-busses etc can all add to the dirge, afterall why wouldn’t we want people to hear the details of something we worked hard to create 🙂 I would say the mix, drums etc all need a bit more meat, try dropping the overall levels before they hit your final master bus plugins and try adding a nice curve on the drums around 100-125hz, work a hi-pass on the guitars but they still need to have a bit of body so you can feel the amp moving as it were, aside from that if you’re struggling to still get clarity (those 16th/32th tremolo picked notes can be right arsed to sync up) then it’s not at all unheard of to sidechain the guitars a little off the kick aswell…
Out of interest how does the “width” control in reaper work? Again you ideally want to get the separation down on the mix and then everything gets nicely enhanced on the master and some free plugins which simulate haas effects etc caused issues in phase alignment which can again cause issues with getting sounds to project as some of their freq’s are suffering from phase cancellation etc

Well you clearly seem to have a goal in mind and who should any of us be to try and stop you making your own music, I still think that to enable this music to be appreciated to it’s level of intensity and musicality, a polished mix would still help matters, nb: polished mix, not necessarily master..

you have to adjust your colostomy bag more times than your hi-hat stand….
Or for guitarists insert amp, FX pedal etc 😉

Hehe who said anything about Meshuggah? 😛
But seriously it’s really well done, I’d be very proud to have that as my calling card, why not take the same video and apply it to different tracks and genres, show that your stuff is portable to many formats? If you can show really ability in one area AND show diversity surely that should open up your odds?
Out of interest was the crew “hired” as such, or were there lots of beer tokens kicking around? And again if you don’t mind divulging, what sort of budget would you have to allocate for something like this – fancy doing us a video??

Dude, how awesome, do I detect a very large portion of Queensryche?
Really nice track, nice dymanics, I would work on the heavy bit being a touch more punchy and sinister, but it’s a really nice track nice and different from the norm! deffo wanna hear more!!!

If I could just step in, the justification of presets, who uses what and for what purpose is great an’ all, but no-one has actually mentioned that all this talk about peaking hasn’t taken into account that not even some of the highly priced pro tools setups come with DECENT and ACCURATE metering, every channel you’re trying to fault find should have a decent meter in there, it’s an absolute must, DAW meters are very inaccurate….
Steve slate drums are meant for drum replacement technology, they are designed as an overlay to an exisiting track to polish that up, it’s almost pointless by comparison to try and use SSD as SD2.0 has far more velocity layers and gives far more feedback to the player, we know this cos all our drums were done on V-drums through superior 🙂
P.s. it’s always been considered that mixing to master bus compression is self defeating as you’re mixing to a dynamics processor so changes end up being non-linear…

…the noise of my jaw hitting the floor 🙂
Excellent production, we’re trying to get into more and more vids but this was a great sample! Mind you there is quite a crew listed in helping with it, and there is definitely a very noticeable comparison to be made to a certain band beginning with “M”….. 😛

Hey man,
Well I had a good listen to all tracks and I don’t think the overall lack of responses was due to the lack of a Djent influence, personally I agree djent has been a bit too widely copied and IMHO too easy to hide creativity, I would say the issue was the mix, and parts of the composition or playing.
Gotta agree with the comment above, the whole mix is very narrow and lacking in a lot of colourful freq’s, if you’re worried about the bass dominating the mix, look into sidechaining the kick, I think when there’s such a pace to a track the mix really needs to allow the smallest detail to be audible and really keep tight and punchy, after that I’m a big fan of aggressive vocals, but track 2 sounded like someone had your balls in a pair of nutcrackers and threatened your manhood if you didn’t immediately start shouting at someone who was across the local estate.
I reckon, give the tracks some more dynamics, beef up the mix, look at subtrackive EQ’s and sidechaining, after than start looking at the master bus to polish the track a touch, exciters, master bus compressors (maybe) full linear phase EQ’s all sorts…

What a lovely track, as others have mentioned a very organic sounding track and mix, lovely tones from the guitars, excellent control and feel from the playing, a real pleasure to sit back and let the music softly permeate the psyche…

Hey Charvell (play on the guitar?)
Thanks man, we do work hard, but on average if we were to put the hours back to back, I’d say it;s about 20-30hrs for each track start to finish, writing, recording, producing, god that was actually tougher to work out that I thought hehehe, we’ve got some more stuff appearing all over, expect some vids and more tracks soon 🙂
