So the rim triggering is completely fixed now. Now on to my other problem. I’m not really expecting anyone to reply but here’s hoping…
Does anyone else have any experience with the main RET percussion triggers mounted under the head? I’ve finally figured out what my main problem with THESE are. There’s an extreme cut off in sensitivity as you as you hit anywhere outside of the VERY VERY middle of the head. The actual trigger is a round plate which is something like 8 inches in diameter yet you can only really the hit the very center. It’s awful, even if my one stick is just two inches off the center I get an extremely unbalanced roll. I know my way around the Alesis Trigger IO pretty well and I don’t see any way of adjusting something like that. There’s also nothing on the trigger itself. If I could just get this fixed it’d be the last thing I need to get these drums feeling natural.
Does anyone use Ddrum triggers are another one of those kind that clips on the rim of the drum? Do those triggers give you more leeway with where you hit the drum head?
Just for everyone’s info I thought I’d post my progress on the problem. If you ever use a RET percussion electronic kit you may run into the same thing. Apparently the gain set for the rims is zero which actually makes them almost impossible to trigger. (and since the only way I know how to even select a trigger for adjustment on the Alesis Trigger IO is to ‘trigger’ the trigger, that makes this an especially frustrating situation) I discovered that if I continuously hit on the rim around the area right where the rim trigger is I’ll eventually randomly trigger a rim. I’ve only been able to do this on a couple of the toms so far. No luck on the snare…yet. I’m still at it. Anyway, when I actually manage to select the rim by activating it I can then up the gain so the rim will be triggered like normal the whole way around the drum.
