Govii, I use the LP ToonTracks software quite a lot and I work mainly in an acoustic guitar oriented singer songwriter mode. The pieces I write are usually not Latin per se, but I just like the sound of congas (and other Latin Percussion instruments) with acoustic guitar.

Do you have a MIDI controller type keyboard? Often what I do is slow the metronome way down and punch in some beats in MIDI, then I drag that to the browser and look for similar beats. I do quite a lot of editing using both the offered tracks and stuff that I put in with my own MIDI keyboard.

I’ve found I really can’t create all of the subtle, quick, musical inflections that a skilled Latin Percussionist provides, so what seems to work best is slowing things down as much as possible when using MIDI and then looking for grooves that I can use in the browser. I’ve taken Udu lines, cymbal lines, etc from pre-packaged tracks and added them to my conga tracks and then used the prepackaged fills on some of the turn arounds.

    Hope this might be helpful.

So I believe what you are asking is that you want to sync a track in EZD with a track that is on a computer with a track that is located on a different source, like a ‘studio in a box” or stand alone type unit. I do this all the time, running EZD on a SweetWater Creation Station while having my music tracks (Gtrs, keys, vocals) which have been recorded separately on a Tascam 2488Neo. What I do is start with a click track ON BOTH set to the same beats per minute. One deadspace click track is 8 bars long, the other 16. This is ‘dead space’ time – no music or drums on it. I just count it in and turn one on and then count out the 8 bars with the first one, and then turn on the other right on count one, bar 9. I almost always nail it,and have recorded demos of very long songs that way with ‘no slippage’ over the course of the recorded track. It is not that hard to do, once you’ve tried it a few times and you know both of your pieces of equipment. Once I’m done, I can edit out the front end deadspace in my demo before I master it.

I’m heading towards using EZD in Reaper where I will also record my audio tracks, but right now I’m just putting drumtracks to stuff I already had started on the NEO that didn’t have drums on them.

    Hope this help.
