On Friday I paid $179 for EZdrummer at the Toontrack site and was shocked to later see it for as low as $89. My own fault completely, but here’s how it happened.

I see EZmix in the Sweetwater catalog for $69. I go to the Toontrack site, download the demo, like it, so I go back to the Toontrack site and buy it for $69, the same price as Sweetwater. In the meantime I see EZdrummer on the Toontrack site, decide to purchase it, so I do so from the Toontrack site thinking that I’m again paying the same price that retailers sell it for (since this was true with EZmix, plus lots of manufacturers have similar pricing for downloaded products). Later as I’m looking through the Sweetwater catalog again I see it for $149, and after a little research I find it for $99 at zzounds.com and $89 on amazon.com. Again, this is all my own fault, I should have been a more savvy shopper, but I can’t help but feel a little slighted. I don’t know of any other software manufacturers that sell at their site via download, charging almost twice what the product can be bought for elsewhere. Again, this is my fault; caveat emptor, right?
