Yep, I took the plunge, I found a DTX502 brain for 179 on eBay. Quite a steal price wise if you ask me considering I sold my DTXPlorer brain for 85 the next week so that got me a 502 for under a 100 bucks. I noticed the stock sounds are WAAAY better then the DTXP, now I just need to expand my rack so I can split some of the inputs.

Nigel I never even thought of using the PopRock kits! I don’t use any of the beats that come stock, I was thinking on sound alone. However when I go thru and look at the Country tools I totally see how it could work. Love the info that you can get thru these forums.

Leevious with the specs you have listed above things should be opening much fastr for you unless you are using your SSD as a boot drive and the spining disk as storage. I’ve noticed on my MacBook Pro that opening projects takes about half the time. The time it takes to launch apps is quicker, but the real noticable feature is that it takes 8 seconds to boot my laptop now.

I also noticed that exporting files is quicker, as is bouncing within a project in Logic.

John do you know if there are plans to ever include such a function in SD? I had to do one for a song and would up micing a Cymbal and recording the swell.

If you click on Support and choose contact support/FAQ you are able to email support. I believe that they say allow 24 hours for a reply but if I am being honest, the few times I have had to contact support it has only been a few hours before I got a reply. Granted, I’ve contacted them only during business hours. While phone support would be a great option, it would probably force Toontrack to raise the price of their software – which I believe is already priced to give the user substantial bang for the buck. I for one would gladly stick to email and support forums. It works.

Ghoti – feel free to pose your question to me in private email if you are still having trouble. My address is:

Jason thanks for the reply. I will try the De-Esser on the hats today. Been away on vacation so I have not had a chance to touch anything. I also saw in my research the mastering process in general may also lend a hand in taming the hats a little. This is my first run thru using both Logic and SD to record so it’s a learning experience!

You could probably try the Vintage pack and tweak with signal processing.

I upgraded my MacBook Pro with an SSD about 60 months ago. Performance went from acceptable to ridiculous. I don’t think I can ever go back to spinning disk again. I’d highly recommend it.
