I have never in my life seen a software company end an upgrade program for any reason, ever, period ,end of story.
Get out much? That is simply not true at all. You have never used any software that has the name “Microsoft” on it? Do you really believe that Microsoft should still offer an upgrade path for Office Pro 98 to upgrade to Office 2013? Or an upgrade path for Windows XP to Windows 7 or Windows 10? Have you ever been a programmer? Do you have any idea what an impossible task it would be, even for Microsoft, to offer endless upgrades for every version of software? If you have never been a programmer then you have no clue what it takes to program software like Superior Drummer, let alone what it takes to make old versions upgradeable and compatible with new versions. Your claim is not realistic at all. Wake up and join the real world.
Some of you people are just amazing with these shallow rants and me, me, me points of view. Break out of your shell and expand your horizons. OMG!

Henrik Nobel, Your response is unfair. This SD2 upgrade thing is no different than what every other software vendor on the planet is doing. Nobody expects Microsoft Office 98 to keep working forever on Windows XP or Windows 7 or Windows 10. Even Microsoft can’t support older versions of software forever, it simply is not feasible to do that. What makes you think Toontrack should be any different? This upgrade to SD3 is a steal at this price, for what you get it is incredible. It is simply not realistic to expect them to make every version of EZD and SD work forever on every OS no matter how old it is.

the rough google translation…..
“I hope you are not serious with this intention. You force me to update now and disable it later – it’s unfair! You will not do that! I have already invested in you, do not say that it will count more! If I’m not ready to upgrade now, do not force me! Leave it to me when I update!”
I can kinda understand. I am a programmer so I know one thing they do not want to do is go on indefinitely supporting SD2 and SD3. At some point they have to end support for SD2, and that by definition includes ending support for the upgrade. They can’t have SD3 out there and have it be stagnant just so we can all take our time upgrading. If they improve SD3 then they have to modify the upgrade process as well, and they dont want to do that with no end in sight. I get that.
Not trying to take sides, I just have some understanding for both points of view.

Superior Drummer 2 will still work on your computer and you can continue using it together with your SDXs and the SDXs/EZXs that were released before SD3.
Also, new SDXs and EZXs, such as the Rock Foundry SDX, Hard Rock EZX, Action! EZX, UK Pop EZX or Drums of Destruction EZX require Superior Drummer 3.
Will the expansion packs I have now for my SD2 work in SD3? I understand the new SDX expansions will only work with SD3, but will SD3 be able to use my existing expansions that I have been using in my SD2?
Thanks for the clarification.

Hi, are you asking if it will be possible to cross grade from EZdrummer 2 after the above discussed Superior 2 to Superior 3 upgrade offer has ended? To the best of my knowledge, yes you can. I haven’t seen anything indicating or stating otherwise.
John
Just to clarify. Is it that there will still be an upgrade path (regular upgrade or cross-grade), but won’t be discounted?
That was how I took it. When I read the email I did not get the idea that the upgrade path would end, only that the discounted price on the upgrade would end, and after the start of 2019 the upgrade would go back to a full price upgrade. My impression was that they have discounted the upgrade price until the end of the year, not that they are getting rid of the upgrade completely.
Maybe one of the mods can confirm if I am understanding their intent correctly?

With the seeming miserable flop of Windows 8, this question is quickly becoming more pertinent. I’m quite interested in hearing about support for a Linux platform. I would LOVE to quit using Winblows exploders and manglers.
If Reaper can do it, then I would want my Toontrack and other plugs to follow. Can Linux handle Superior Drummer?

Thanked by:I think I ended up kinda responding to two threads at once here, sorry. the “Pre Packaged Song Production and Mix” thread.
I would find such a product interesting, but not really useful. Seems like it would be too much tedium to make the instrumental riffs and licks match my own songs, timing, chord changes, etc. Easy for me to say because I play keys, guitar, and bass. I love my Toontrack stuff because I never learned to play drums. When all they had to do was offer us an almost inifinite variety of rhythmical patterns, Toontrack’s efforts were timely and to the mark! But throwing in parameters of keys and chord progressions and pitches on top of infinite timing variations, wow! That would be monumental.
The big problem I run into being a do-it-all-myself “computer musician” who can only play one instrument keys or guitar at a time, is when people ask me to play my songs live! Now what do I do? If there were 5 or 6 of me then yeah I could put a band up and play the tunes. (or if I could persuade 4 or 5 other talents to learn all my tunes, I’d love to do an all original band!) But there doesn’t seem to be much lure for hearing a lone axe slinger play along with his own canned backing tracks.
So if Toontrack did manage to pre-package the entire song writing and production process into a push button turn key operation so easy that (in the words of Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott) “a chimpanzee and two trainees could do it” then what happens to real LIVE music?

Why is this…..
ORIGINAL: planetnine
No, it’s called self censorship.
Maybe you should be a little more tolerant and leave them alone?
…..a more popular solution than this?
ORIGINAL: wagzisnotadrummer
….they should have found some hardcore believers for the Toontrack Gospel stuff.
Why do so many people think I should shut up and tolerate it and just avoid listening to what might otherwise turn out to be good music? Why is that better than expecting equal representation for the gospel stuff?
It is difficult to get my point across in this medium but I was not asking to have the metal “gods” censored. I just think the examples should be equitable. If all the gospel stuff is instrumental then all the “metal gods” stuff should be instrumental. If you’re going to post deicidal mania (that’s not my choice term for it, that’s what some of the metal heads call it, sorry, laugh it up!) then why not post some equally poignant gospel mania. Gospel artists are just as enthused about their message as the metal heads are about theirs. I’m not posting songs about killing Ozzie and destroying evil death metal, and I never would. Why is it so important for the metal guys to be able to push their message up front with impunity, but without allowing the same privilege for other points of view? As asked above, what if one of the samples had lyrics that reflect a radical jihadist view that all Americans should be burned? Would that be given the same allowance and tolerance? What if the songs urged death to all Hindu gods? I know, I know, it’s your web site and you can do as you please. Still, it’s a valid question.
You’re right, this is an age old banter with no end in sight. I am not trying to start a war of the words or anything. I just think the least we can do is give all sides equal exposure, especially if the message is something we know to be controversial. Some people think that’s too much to ask. I think it’s better than censoring anything, and posting only instrumental gospel music is, in a narrow sense, a subtle, unintentional kind of censorhsip.

Makes sense. Most of the replies I am getting say the makers will be happy to have the “free” credit. I’ll be careful not to imply any kind of connection or affiliation. Some replies say to simply put that stuff on the web site, as most people who have a cd are not musicians and they wont give a hoot.
One point was that nobody is going to buy my cd because I used Reaper……but they might buy Reaper because my cd sounds ok. So who is really doing who the favor here…..

Sounds good to me. Everything is well performed, well played, doesn’t sound like a computerized wall of sound, there is some emotion and guts behind the sound. Very nice.

Ok, my Custom & Vintage SDX is purchased, and I have the EZ MIX demo downloaded. I’m gonna see what this stuff is all about!
You guys (your drum software, both EZD and SD) have made a huge difference in the quality of my mixes. This stuff is lightyears beyond any drum machine programming I used to do!
Hats off to you, and THANK YOU!

I can’t comment on future development until the time comes when I can comment
LOL!! Thanks! Exactly the answer I expected, but I had to ask! Sometimes lesser people will slip and actually reveal secrets, but you TT guys don’t slip! With a reply like that you could run for office and do well!
I’ll do the demo and give it a test drive! Should be some good Christmas Eve fun……before I get the C&V SDX Expansion that’s on sale!

I don’t know if it will work, but have you tried debit instead?
That will draw directly from, usually, your checking account.
Hadn’t thought of that, but will try it. It has the little cc logo thing on it, which I think means it behaves just like a cc for all practical purposes. I’ll try it right now and see what happens. I gotsta have me some Songwriter’s Fill Pack, man I love new fills!!
