I want to know why it’s my job to suffer while I figure out where some reverb I didn’t order is on my plate, on snare and kick. It isn’t bleed mics. Why so many compressors, EQ, etc on my tracks, even on the dry setting? There aren’t that many interesting snares overall, and some real clunkers though assorted approaches make some of them useable. OH, wait, there is a dry preset, and it’s NOT dry…on the public forums, there are some bewildered customers on this point.
I think I found the issue for the moment.
So SD isn’t making it possible to bring in the EZ kits in? That’s surprising. They really should rework the EZ kits, throw some together and make them work. Especially for the flagship product. You didn’t like what’s in the Bob Rock collection? That sounds pretty attractive to me. Too bad it never goes on sale. I also am not into the hollow metal sound. (Bob Rock produced Metallica, and that sounded more hard rock than current metal).
Thanks. I’m hoping there is a vst to replace ableton’s piano roll. I’m fine with their DAW otherwise, but this is a major nightmare. I bought Fruity Loops because it has a much better midi editor. I have yet to really test it with SD3, but we will find out.
Interesting….it does seem like it should be a standard offering, especially when a broken snare is included. It wouldn’t take THAT much extra effort considering the rest of the setup. Did you hear this on the Bob Rock collection also? That one seemed to have the best sounding shells overall.
I’ve had this exact same issue coming out of midi files created in Ableton’s create midi from audio function. I’m doing this for kick and snare replace on some old tracks. Ableton does a decent job of detection, but the velocity data is not great, and editing it is the worst, and one reason I wish someone could tell me an alternative VST for midi sequencing or notation, since Ableton has not seen fit to create a deeply useable midi editing environment. Regardless, that’s THEIR problem, not Toontrack’s.
Regardless, the snares in particular are not being hit hard enough. I have to dial the midi note velocity to the max, and turn it up in the mixer. This is for how hard the snare is being hit. This is not an issue with the kick, or cymbals.
If there are presets other than that snare list, I haven’t seen it. I guess I will have to look into stacking snares, but is this really how it’s been done in the real world?
If anyone wants to vouch how much better the midi editors in other DAWs are, LMK.
You’ve got me wondering now if this is what I’m hearing that bugs me with some of the samples.
Thanks for this info. This is one of the best sounding drum softwares I’ve seen, but if I can’t UNDO, and I can’t EDIT MIDI, then I don’t really understand
the point of this software.
