Hopefully you’ve got this figured out already… If not, try eBay.  I was in a similar boat and ended up with a Roland TD-30 second hand that I have to admit I’m quite happy with.  I don’t use it for anything but triggering SD3, but the fact that it has copious I/O and allows me to leverage the positional sensing on my snare and ride cymbals is fantastic. I play with ATV cymbals so the 50 was overkill and I’m not a fan of the SSD libraries either.  Hence the TD-30.  You can find one for about $1400 shipped in most cases.  It’s a lot, but well worth it in the end.

So I managed to answer my own question by process of investigation and elimination…

    “Open Pedal” = Splash

    “Closed Pedal” = Chick

Right click any drum in the interface to see the properties. On the lower right corner there’s a Details button, which reveals the MIDI notes used for the selected instrument. It also contains a MIDI in display, which shows the last MIDI note that was received by EZdrummer 2.

    You’re 100% correct, but you didn’t answer my question…. :/

In details for the HiHat instrument, I can see the following:

    Closed Edge

    Closed Tip

    Tight Edge

    Tight Tip

    Seq Hits

    Open 0

    Open 1

    Open 2

    Open 3

    Open 4

    Open 5

    Open Pedal

    Closed Pedal

    Edge Trigger

    Tip Trigger

    Pedal CC Controller

Notice what’s missing here – “chick” and “splash” articulations.  Are these available in EZd2?

If you run SD2 or EZd2 in a DAW, you can run this VST plugin -> NoteMapper

It allows you to select an incoming MIDI note and push it to SD2 or EZd2 as a modified note.  As mentioned, try to find a suitable config that works with the hihat and then just re-map whatever else you might need in NoteMapper.  For me, I needed this in EZd2 when I was running more pads with splitters off my toms and needed to push the rim notes to alternate notes.

Just make sure you route appropriately.  eDrum MIDI -> NoteMapper -> EZd2/SD2 -> Audio Out

One thing to keep in mind here – I did gain a couple of ms of latency when routing this way.  So it’s not perfect, but it does the job for most and did work fine until I upgraded to SD3 (which supports custom MIDI mapping out of the box).
