I’d say there is a piezo under the foam bit by the looks. The visable one looks like for side stick, the foam would be on the snare head. I could be wrong.
I have the same set up, and had the same problems. I used the learn function for the hats only and manually programmed the note number into the io, seemed to solve that problem. You need to print off a sheet that has the info on what note number triggers what drum, I actually found this faster than selecting the drum then clicking learn in Superior.
The trigger io is awesome! 20 trigger inputs!!

I have experimented a lot with practice pad conversions, I’m a fabrication engineer by trade so had access to loads of materials/thickness and I found the ideal metal plate material is from a stove top element cover that you might find at a home improvement type store, (oddly, in NZ I found some at a chain store called the plastic box which sell storage containers, bean bags and anything plastic in between).
