I have no problem editing midi. I actually feel that just using midi without any editing at all is dishonest. You aren’t making the music yours.

Theoretically, you could use any of the metal libraries for odd meters, especially if one was to feel everything out in 4/4 as a pattern that crossed a bar line. If you really wanted to get into it, LOE II with the carpet rolls could easily be manipulated into odd meter ostinatos over that 4/4 pulse because the kicks flood in all of those beats. But if I have a song thats mostly in 5…a drummer could feel it probably in a number of different ways with different accents if the drummer was actually playing 5/4 for real. Most of the time it just takes a few different ideas to spring board into my own beats.

The reason why having a library would be helpful is the same reason that having any of these libraries are helpful. They provide context as to how a live drummer feels the beat. One thing that I have noticed most of all in the libraries is how much of the nuance of the playing I totally missed programming the beats myself without a reference point. Before I could “SEE” what the drummers were playing in midi and how much they are actually doing, the stuff I was programming was a lot less convincing.

The drum riffs thing was probably not meant for odd meters, I just thought that since that’s a lot of what periphery does…then there would be more of that kind of material on there because the drummer is the guy from periphery.

This is a really good example. If you program with a straight feel, its too stiff…if you program triplets, it doesn’t sound right either.
