Couldn’t you use a set of pintech practice cymbals?

Question #2: all of the ekits that I see have rack toms (no toms mounted on the kick), Is that by chance or by design? I was thinking about buying a cheap kit and converting it. Do I need to put the toms on a rack?

Okay, that makes sense. How easy is it to create a 2 zone snare? I haven’t seen a plan for that…

Let’s say the midi brain is an Alesis Trigger IO… how do you “DIY” a 3 zone snare?

If you search youtube you’ll see quite a few people who use the Yamaha ekits.

In the end it all comes down to how it feels to you or the drummer playing it. I am in the process of buying an ekit. I’ve played quite a few and the higher end kits, (like Roland, Hart and R.E.T) even though they are pricey, offer a much more fulfilling drum experience.

The major differences are in the # of zones per pad, the feel of the head and the sensitivity of each drum. Also the Hi Hat programmablity is a key factor for serious users.

Having said all that… yeah the DTXplorer works and may suit you fine.
