I’m quite excited for this, and if you know Toontrack, you know it’s going to be ‘product.’  This is an “ACE” for me indeed…certainly not a FAIL.  The year’s going to be a big one for Toontrack, and I’m standing by for further news.

Yep…these aren’t bad at all when you are on a super tight budget, yet want to be able to trigger sounds in SD2, practice anywhere, or just get acquainted with drumming in general.  I snagged one of these (actually, it was the YDD-60, which came out to replace the DD-65, but with all the same features, pads, and look) for only 99 bucks brand new from musician’s friend stupid deal of the day a while back.  For $100, this thing is awesome!

    Greetings…

The Yamaha DTXpress IV Special is fully capable of cymbal chokes with the 3-zone pad inputs.  I have not yet integrated the kit to SD2, but I intend to this weekend.  As far as a standalone kit though, this kit feels pretty damn natural!  I was really skepticle about its playability and such but was re-assured right out of the box.  For the price, you get a lot of bang for the buck in features and solid performance.  It certainly doesn’t even come close to feeling like a toy.  I highly recommend this kit!

Well, I used your suggestions last night while tinkering around with it.  VERY close it is.  I’ll also try the one you just mentioned to see if that gets more closer to the ideal I’m after.  This definitely gives me something to work with at any rate.  Thanks again on your trials to achieve this.  I actually scoured the nets looking for any written clinics by the mixing engineer (I think it was Kevin Shirley) without any luck.  I know…wishful thinking.    I’ll give it a hefty ‘go’ tonight again and see if I can get more resonance out of it like you mentioned.  Of course, to be sure, I’ll throw down some similar guitars to BC&SL’s gits for context of a real mix.  Any findings I may come up with, I’ll be running them by you.  Thanks again!

Wow!  Thank you for taking the time out to help me out with this, as I honestly didn’t really know where to start.  I will try this out tonight!  Thank you, thank you!

    Best,
