I see what he means, it does sound a little off, Racktom 1 in OH sounds central, racktom 2,3,4 sound far right. mr whitten, how were the overheads on the gretsch can you remember? I might have to look at some of the pictures of the session. This may sound stupid but was it setup like a four piece but with 3 floor toms? thats how it sounds in the overheads. Interesting.
I’ve asked for this before im told its been noted Basically im after celebrity endorsements, mic’ing lets say danny careys kit and getting his drum tech, sound engineer whatever! to do some presets. I think for danny carey you’d want Joe barresi to do some presets?
Anyway for danny carey’s kit your best looking at the metal foundry sonor kits, then process in S2.0 or your DAW and see how you go. You only have to look at the metal foundry pictures on its product page, scroll through till the sonor kits and have a look at the setup? look familiar-ish?
Also platinum samples Evil drums might be ok, no sonor kit there but mr barresi recorded tool you might find some of his presets similar?
Ahhhhh unlucky scotty boy!
Do us a favor then, sneak round the office and see what you can dig up on the next project and report back, then guess what??? I reckon youd get a bloody long holiday!
See, problem solved, call me Mark ‘TT Staff S#*t Advice Advisor’ (Update it in my signature please).
I await my knighthood………………………………
Toy’s a little harsh I mean I could see why people would like it, it just wasnt for me. But the intention wasnt to start a negative thread, i was just interested to know if it had been well received by the toontrack customers, sales wise? Has it gone so well that we can expect more products like this in the future? or a step back to the more traditional drum packs? not that they ever stepped away π
Axe Fx you monster! i got the eleven rack π ive been using pro tools for years so it made sense, but god the axe fx ALWAYS sounds good!
How bout info on those guitar tones?, totally agree with asat and the edge sound. nice work. Any vocals or instrumental?
Without sitting down trying to get the sound myself, the best advice i can give is to load ‘the metal foundry mix’ preset in the ‘EZ Mixer’ section under ‘All mixer’ (At the bottom of the superior 2.0 main screen, next to the ‘Master Volume’) This might be a good starting point? It makes everything quite snappy sounding with a lot of compression and punch, compromising a bit of the lower end? You could try combining snares like the ‘marching snare with wood hoops’ with a tighter snare to get the crack with some depth? But mr whitten is right, triggers and heavy processing is going to be the only way there.
Included a quick sample, 3 snares combined, pitch up 2.0 and some very heavy parallel compression.

Hey, its snappy! and ive just finished work so my hi hat and kick drum legs werent workin together too well! π
Actually yeah i forgot one thing, pitch. Find the snare you want and pitch it up, not too far, on most snares i wouldnt pitch above 3.0, 3.0 for me is extreme, maybe if i was combining snares i might pitch something above 3.0 and hide it behind a good all round snare.
Everything has already been mentioned and I dissagree with nothing. I’ll just add combining snares is something that might interest you as well? If you can’t get the results your after with one snare, try two?? Maybe twice as hard, but twice as fun π
Yeah look as you’ve said, of course track from the drummers perspective and when playing e-drums etc. Maybe im a minority then? when i listen to music i pick up very quickly if the drums are from perspective or not, and it just sounds sooooooooo wrong! thats why my original question was
are there any drummers out there who find this uncomfortable to listen to as well?
My thinking is that wouldnt a NON drummer not care what perspective was used?? ok maybe ‘not care’ was the wrong word there, but you get my drift? Surely then we should be catering for the most valuable, most talented, (generally) the best looking guy in the band???? π π π I BLOODY WELL THINK SO!!!
When im listening to a CD im never picturing the band playing live anyway so to hear the drummers perspective seems right, live shows are mono but i can understand why you would reverse the drums for live DVD, or BlueRay videos.
But lefty’s, stick with the gee-tar please. π
