Thanks to everyone for the very detailed responses. Going to sort through the info and with all the options I am sure I will find the right solution to my situation. Thanks for the guidance, joe
Thanks for the quick replies! My thought was what is a laptop to a desk top computer but an external hard drive? I do all progamming on the laptop and then bounce the project to Pro Tools tracks but I wouldnt mind every now and then opening SD3 on the second computer. I have all the Toontrack SD3 drums and midi except for those that have metal, death and darkness in the titles. The extremely large SDX are already on exterior drives. Its the smaller SDX,EX and midi files that are left on the Laptop. Still a sizable amount.
Making a SSD of those remaining files is an option or just getting a 5 – 6 TB drive and put everything on might be best but was just wondering if linking the two computers and sharing those files occasionally would be possible. I also have the EZBass and EZKeys on the laptop also which would be great to “share” with the desktop occasionaly. Thanks for any possibilities, j oe

Thank You Drumjack52, Worked perfectly and appreciate extra advice. I reset my ins and outs on the computer and my Apollo and followed your instructions. I’m sure it was one little thing I was missing but your help made a big difference. Thanks again, joe
Thanks for the reply dokrok5150. Yeah, it worked with everything else but saw the thread with connection issues so I thought I’d reach out to the forum. Thanks again, joe
WOW! Thanks Scott for that quick response. I was installing a new midi controller last night and must have bumped that.
Again thanks for the assist! joe
Hi Brad, Sat down with my new SDD 2TB hard drive and successfully loaded Rooms Of Hansa, Orchestral Percussion and Decades. It was quite easy as a direct install to the HD. I may move some from my computer HD but for now they give me something to use while I’m traveling. I can just leave the externals home until needed. I will save this page for when the time comes.:) Thanks again for all the help and advice. joe
Hey DD and Brad, Thanks for the advice and information. Have a 2TB SSD on hand and going to give it a shot this weekend. 10 more days and I’ll be adding EZBass as well. 🙂 Stay safe and thanks again, joe
Thanks for the response Brad and Drums Dude. I’m not a computer guy and in buying SD3 with the libraries on a SSD, I ordered the package one evening and the next day the SSD arrived and I was up and running. So my thought of purchasing the SSD loaded libraries from Toontracks is for the ease of the process due to my lack of computer knowledge. Quick n easy for me. I have searched the forums and there are those who tried to set up libraries on externals and had issues .
If you have a step by step process I can follow to get these on a SSD, I think the time has come to up my computer skills.
Any direction and advice would be much appreciated, joe
Hi Henrik, With no external sources at all plugged into my Mac pro, I can start the SD3 program, select a kit and then select a groove and it will play. I can do this endlessly with no problem. I can choose different kits and different grooves listening to the sound through the Mac speakers. Once I plug anything, whether it be a headphone jack or mini plug to a set of speakers, the output of any drums are not audible. You can tap instruments with the mouse and visual see the hit but no sound. Along with this any grooves from any location will not playback. When clicking the selected groove start icon, the moving bar dot moves 1/32″ and stops.
No other programs or Apps are running. My SD2 does not do this. (???) joe
Hi George, Glad to see your post as I was beginning to believe that I was the only one using the Instrument List Tab in any way.
The other functions I am missing that went with using the Instrument List is the Layer option in the SD2 Player. Using these 2 functions would allow me to find similar Instrument Patterns throughout the entire midi library, and drag them down to form custom instrument performances.
I hope others have used these features enough to warrant seeing them come up in any future firmware updates.
Thanks Henrik for your reply and advice.
I am sorry to hear this option in the browser Groove Tab has been eliminated. To be able to SEE the instruments in a groove and click/solo any one of them in real time (let’s say Hi Hat) and then click on another groove and solo that, and continue doing this until you find the hi hat groove you need was a helpful tool to locating/auditioning instrument parts. All this without ever having to do the Copy.Paste,Click,Choose process you described above. Plus this process would have to be done for each Groove
you wanted to solo an instrument in. Another plus of this was the ease of just dragging this chosen groove with the solo’d instrument down to the track.
If possible I would like to add a consideration to future firmware updates an added box to the right in the Groove browser that would show the intstruments in that groove and the ability to solo any combination of those instruments, as found in SD2.
Thanks again for your help and looking forward to digging deeper into this program.
Ordered!!! Thanks Toontrack for your help and your continuing outstanding products ! joe
My apologies, I never looked at the SD3 complete Software/Core Library page and thought it came as an SSD Drive when purchased. I see it too is a download and the SSD Core Library is an additional add on.
Clears things up completely. Thanks for everyone’s help and time.
