Never really listened to Phil Collins much. But the Metal Foundry has a “Tama Imperialstar 1975 small” kit that has some tight high toms. I used it recently doing some Neil Peart kinda sounding stuff. Hope that helps.

I have Christian beliefs … so obviously this makes me wonder about certain things.
regardless of faith, though – it’s still a pretty odd co-winkee-dink
    Thanks for the links, Kenny.

No prob. Yes, it’s quite strange. I just can’t believe in the U.S. they’re trying to say the first 5,000+ birds died from fireworks shock. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! That would be like a whole football team (I’m talking offense-defense-scrubs) dying on the field. And the authorities saying they all had asthma attacks at the same time! Riiiight!!!

I keep wakin’ up and looking out my window for about a couple hundred dead birds in my yard.

Getting a midi keyboard for me mattered if doing drums was all I needed it for. If your just going to be doing drums / drum beats, I’d grab something like the Oxygen 25. I have yet to see a guy or gal program each piece of a kit at once on a 88 key midi controller. NOT SAYING IT CAN’T BE DONE!!! Just saying I aint seen it yet. I have a ReMote 25 and whenever I need it, it’s perfect for drums. I usually pencil everything in. Hehehe… I guess that’s kinda old skool now with all these grooves available.
If you plan on adding big sample libraries like Omnisphere and orchestral libraries, a bigger midi keyboard controller may be better!

So, for Metal beats …. save some $$$ and get a 25. Or save ALL your $$$ and pencil em’ in!!!

    Good Luck

If I am not mistaken the demos are done with the mixer in Superior, but I could be wrong.

Also, what are you using for monitoring?
If I am just playing around editing grooves,I just use the computer speakers because I am not looking for sound, just patterns.
When I am looking for sound ,I use my headphones through my MIDI keyboard(can’t afford nearfields yet). The difference between the two are night and day.
It would be the same using nearfields,as it would be mixing in a state of the art professional studio. The end results would sound different.

Someone more expierienced will need to offer advice on brightening up a dull and flat mix.

    Later.

Just get the best head phones you can afford if you have no monitors. And you can grab http://www.rndigital.com/inspector.html! It’s free and is great so you can see any offending frequencies in your mix. Throw it on LAST in your inserts chain. Another way to check your mixes is use of course your computers speakers no matter what size speakers they are. And use your cars stereo. Car stereos add bass and probably 90% of people who listen to your stuff… it’ll either be one of three places
    1. their computer MP3 probably!
    2. their mobile phone mp3 player!
    3. or their car mp3’s!
Make all your finished MP3’s 320Kbps

To help brighten mixes, remember to put HPF’s on!! Guitars! Notch offending frequencies out, try not to add gain (I was a huge expert at adding too much gain in final mixes!) And you really don’t need the very best monitors, just need to learn your own monitors capabilities. I’m still learning mine But…. killa DA convertors and awesome monitors are well….. awesome!

    Good Luck

Widen those geetars!!! That lead will sound even bigger if the guitars were wider. No way am I trying to hijack a thread… http://metallabs.com/DFH/KennyLeeDRumSampl3.mp3%5DHere’s a sample. Real drummer DFHS and plugins two guitars 80L 80R .. bass and a lead guitar. I have treatment behind my monitors and on the wall behind them and on my ceiling. It’s just a spare bedroom, I used to put drummers in my family room hahaha…. Someone mentioned checking mixes on several systems. Hellz yeahz… I live by Best Buy -electronics store in the U.S. And before I got familiar with my monitors, I’d take all my mixes there and play them through EVERYTHING they had!! After a while they’d see me coming and laugh. They couldn’t say nothing because……… I was a customer.
Your tune is cool. Drums seem quite simple, but hey that’s the groove you were going for!! So I’ll shut up hehehe. Vocals seem really loud and yeah the kick isn’t in your face…. it’s on it hahahaha.
