[…] I just need to know if the MIDI files will work with any sequencer. […]
Yes, they’re standard .mid MIDI notation files. π
Per your other comments about Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, etc. though, I’m hoping you understand what everyone else has been saying about them being designed for Toontrack’s drum libraries — e.g. what should be a hit on a rack tom through EZD or Superior, may be something else in whatever you’re running the MIDI into.

this awesome and just what I was looking for!
this may be a silly question, but is this the same mapping (in general)for Superior drummer as well?
Actually (as you may’ve already realized by now), Superior 2 and the SDXes are included in the spreadsheet — I just can’t change the topic title anymore π
And yes, the mapping is generally quite similar between the SD and EZ series; although, especially with the SD sets, it would be more accurate if I included notes about all the different tool sets (sticks, brushes, etc.), but that’s why the spreadsheet is just titled as the “default” MIDI mapping. π

I’ll buy ’em in time on my own, but appreciate the appreciation! π
It’s actually a pretty trivial thing to update now, ever since the 2.2 update to Superior with the MIDI Node editing.
Hopefully I’ll actually follow up on my original promise and get some Reaper maps up too.Β Still can’t make ’em colored like I’d hoped, but I *was* working on a number of different versions (everything/no aliases/essentials, along with trying to format the text in a way that made everything quick to find) — but got sidetracked, as usual, by life. π

finally updated with the default MIDI mapping for C&V Mk II SDX π

Depending on what you’re actually going for, I’m not sure if it would be possible within EZ Drummer.
I’m pretty sure that, yes, Superior would definitely fit the bill by making adjustments to the Envelope settings.
The Superior tutorial videos can probably show you better if it’ll do what you want better than I can in text… in particular, the Envelope is shown off a bit just after 11:30 in this vid…
http://www.toontrack.com/tv.asp?channel=tutorials&sort=addeddate&way=DESC&item=92#2
…I know it gets a bit crazier in another vid too, but I can’t remember which it is offhand.
Alternatively, if you have some other external plug-ins available, and can’t quite swing the cash for Superior yet, you can try running EZD multichannel and add an effect onto only the snare drum channels.
Here’s a quick screenshot I whipped up of how the EZD multi-channel setup might look in Reaper…
…http://www.godprobe.com/temp/ezDrummerMultichannelMixerShot.jpg
From your description of what you’ve tried, I might try throwing a very short ‘verb or delay onto the snare. Or maybe a comp instead/also?Β (Take those suggestions with a grain of salt — I’m still very newbie with some of this stuff π )

Not sure if you own Superior or EZ Player Pro or not, but if you do, there’s an option in the groove players where you can ctrl-click (Windows, not sure on Mac) on each instrument that’s used in a MIDI file, to include/exclude each individual instrument in the clip, which might be helpful on the ensemble included MIDI files.
And then there’s the MIDI files that are just the solo instrument… and man… there are a lot… I won’t even consider going to the trouble of listing them all, there’s so many! π
But I’ll come close… here’s all the category listing under “Shakers” (and the Tambourines, added at the end)
Caxixi
Additional Caxixi
Small Shaker
Additional Small Shaker
Large Shaker
Additional Large Shaker
Afuche
Shekere
Maracas
Additional Maracas
Tambourine
Additional Tambourine
…for each of the non-“Additional” ones, there are 8-12 grooves, the ones common to all(?) of them being…
8th OnBeat
8th Backbeat
8th OnBeat Shuffle
8th Backbeat Shuffle
16th OnBeat
16th Backbeat
16th OnBeat Shuffle
16th Backbeat Shuffle
…and then additional Crescendo and Hard hits, depending on the instrument.
The Shekere has a few more with “basstones.”
And then, for the ones listed under “Additional”…
…there’s a lot…
For the Caxixi, there are 34 additional grooves grouped into “8th”, “8th Triplets”, and “16th”
For the Small Shaker, there are 29 additional grooves grouped into “16th”, “8th Triplets”, and “16th Shuffle”
For the Large Shaker, there are 29 additional grooves grouped into “16th”, “8th Triplets”, and “16th Shuffle”
The Shekere has additional Straight Martillo and Swing Martillo grooves (16 each)
The Maracas have 7 additional grooves, “4th and 8th”, “8th and 16th”, and “basic pattern variations” 01 through 05
…the Additional Tambourine…
…oh man…
18 grooves under “8th Notes”
13 grooves under “8th Triplets 2”
13 grooves under “8th Triplets 2 and 4”
13 grooves under “8th Triplets 4”
12 grooves under “8th Triplets All 4”
15 grooves under “8th Triplets”
10 grooves under “Shuffle”
20 grooves under “8th Hard”
15 grooves under “8th Hard Swing”
3 grooves under “16th Notes”
and lastly…
1 groove under “16th Hard Swing”
…so… if you copy/paste the MIDI from the solo tambourines into the solo shaker stuff… there’s a lot. π
I have no idea if that actually helps you at all, though.Β What strikes me most about your clip compared to the shaker samples I’m hearing in Latin Percussion is how *relaxed* your clip sounds.Β The LP samples, to me, nearly all sound more “urgent.”

One thing that’s helped me a bit, given some insight on what your talking about, is actually a podcast from Pandora (the internet radio site)…
http://blog.pandora.com/podcast/
Sometimes it’s *very* basic, but it may help for areas of music you may not yet have explored.
I haven’t kept up with it, but it looks like the latest episode actually focuses on jazz drumming. π

idea/goals/construction(?): cool — *very* cool
onboard sounds: ick — *very* ick
presenter: kinda odd, but i do prefer when it sounds like a person who’s really on the project rather than a slick advertiser
and… it’s a pity they didn’t demo a more generic Toontrack kit (“Tight Kit” at 7:45 in the vid) — the tight preset already has a predilection towards sounding “electronic” — though it definitely sounded *much* better than the onboard samples
i also get the sense that there’s no bleed into other virtual mics — maybe it does and i just can’t hear it on the video though.
in any case… looking forward to seeing it in shops — if the sound part is easily overcome by running it through something like Toontrack’s libs via MIDI, then it looks cool to me.

For consolidating the issue into a simpler potential problem, is it *just* when using snare and crash?Β (i.e. try some other combinations — kick and crash, snare and kick, kick and hats, etc.)
Also, are you playing them “at the same time” manually, or are you using the new MIDI Nodes feature (if you don’t know what MIDI Nodes are, you probably aren’t using it).
