Interesting….
But what about a softened quality that still retains that modern sound? And still gooey… but not too too vintage…
ever heard an Axe FX analog guitar amp modeler or an Access Virus analog synth modeler? These sound not only very analog, but also very modern, but not too vintage, but they have this softened quality to them.
And since you mention TV analogies… i would say sure, high definition, warm… but also softened… like the diffusion filter that soap operas put on the lens of their video cameras. So I am looking for HD audio with a diffusion filter. This is what I hear as the audio equivalent in the Axe FX and the Access Virus.
So I guess these are the changes I am looking for… and I am also pursuing this softened quality in Mics and mic-pres… any other suggestions? Or is UAD still the way to go after my clarification here?
uhh, yeah.. i dont think so.,
ok so i finally put in the hard work to make serious payments to my credit institution to show them I can be serious , and they finally give me a bit more credit – and today was supposed to be the day i was supposed to have the Ultra. So I go to the Fractal site and it says the unit is unavailable.
I waited so long and worked hard for this day, started celebrating, now I feel like hanging myself.
And there is none on ebay either. This is a nightmare because nobody else on this planet needs this unit as badly as I do. FU^%#%$!!

Subjective means an opinion colored by the speakers views.
Uhh, ok. Sure, i guess in terms of style of music, genre, that kind of thing. But lets not put that in the same category as quality of however that art was recorded. That part cannot be subjective because the hi-fi-ness of the sound – the fidelity – is based on the quality of the equipment.
great music can be done on poor quality equipment for rough tracking. But any well done music deserves premium sound to let it shime most effectively.
Objective means a completely unbiased statement that is factually verifiable.
We are talking ‘art’ here…which is a very subjective subject.
Ok so then please do research the DSP, programming, and algorithm-related facts about Omnisphere and those of NI Massive. The facts on the engines will verify what the better quality synth is. And you also pay for what you get – actually Omnisphere is worth over a grand based on its quality so it is a steal at $500. Massive is suitably priced.
So just clarifying that I never said that the musical style nor genre was objective at all. Again, in no way did I indicate objectivity there – if one wishes in other forms of art too to compare a single streak of red paint across a canvas and put it in the same league as something by DaVinci, they can be my guest. But as for the quality of the paint used – perhaps it might have a bearing on the saturation of the color, or smoothness of stroke… im not sure, I am not a painter, but i am sure higher end painters prefer higher quality materials for their works.. but similarily, as for audio, you can’t compare a minimal DSP-eating soft synth like Massive with a high DSP intensive synth like Omnisphere.
Just like there is no way one can put a guitar modeler like GR4 in the same leagues as the Axe FX.

a decent synth? wow, thats a very subjective question.
Actually, I am officially retracting that line and changing it to ‘Objective’.
a decent synth? wow, thats a very subjective question. for me, i could find nothing decent in the soft-synth market except for Omnisphere… amazing and the only one worth buying that is strictly software-based… for $500 thats a huge steal because it has the million dollar sound… but everything else sounds paper thin.
I went through the Native Instruments line too and its all total waste of money.
But i also decided to go buy a Virus TI due to its capability of acting as a hardware-based plug-in as well.
Guitar Center did not want to ship to me because they said this was an in store sale only – that really blows. Because I got the email from them. How do they assume I am near a Guitar Center? And I do not know why they would have sent an in-store sale email to people worldwide.
Can Toontrack please offer EZ drummer for the $30 for a limited time like that Guitar Center email since the email for the $30 price was 100% invalid for many of us?

Soon Guitar Center is selling EZDrummer for really cheap ($30).
Where are you seeing this “soon”? And will all other retailers be doing a similar sale for the product as well?
Thanks
well at least this thread has answered my question.
If only I would have known in 2007 before I spent my first penny on Guitar Rig 3 with the controller – the first in a series of all the plug-ins i listed. Basically the equivalent monetary of the Axe – i already wasted on (literally) for all the other modelers. and some are a hassle to try to sell second hand – not to mention heavily depreciated.
If only this Fractal company had proper marketing. I dont think they realize how much potential business they are losing out on due to insufficient marketing.
from the millions of reviews and research and specs and hype about this Axe FX,— i am convinced and now have to consider selling an organ to acquire one.

If you think that using the term ‘FX’ is a stretch for Toontrack, you’ll also have to think it is a stretch for many, many other companies including Avid for their Pro Tools product.
Under the ‘Effects and Instruments’ page for Pro Tools:
…’using the dozens of world-class effects plug-ins, including compressors, EQs,…’
Are you referring to the including audio suite and rtas bundles that come with pro tools? uhh, i believe those also come with reverb, delay, pitch shift, etc.
In addition, if you want to get technical, ‘FX’ is sort of an abbreviation for the word ‘effect’ which is defined as the power to produce an outcome or achieve a result; and when used in the realm of audio devices, something that brings about change to the original.
So, an effect or ‘FX’ could be any device that changes the sound of the original which could include mics, pre amps, eqs, compression, delays, tape machines, etc.; all of which have been used as effects by producers/audio professionals since the beginning of audio recording.
I guess they are all FX then. I guess many of us were just expecting other effects like delays verbs, chorus, etc… but i guess you have to buy the electronic EZX for that. But I wish those fx were available for acoustic kits too.
For Whitten in post #3, yes, i have never been under the belief that such things are not outboard. I was just stuck in a common belief that fx were not eq or comp, but i guess they are.
Or you can buy EZ drummer but Superior 2 is much better. You will never want to touch battery again after learning Superior 2 especially. I am a NI Komplete user but when i learned everyting about S2, I immediately took battery off my computer so that i can save space for other programs.
The only thing I like about NI is Kore 2 FX packs (eventide style FX!) Absynth, and some of the neat reaktor stuff.

I have been lucky to be able to acquire an Axe-FX. It outperforms every other plugin or Line6 amp sim I have tried.
Hooked up to my Pro Tools setup, I can track a dry signal and then Insert the Axe-FX in FX loop.
I think John is right. The logic of “you get what you pay for” seems to be the winner in the end.
Case in point: My access Virus synth – destroys any other soft synth that I own, because even though the VC is still RTAS – it relies on the Virus TI hardware to do the DSP – which use very high quality components of the most pristine and select elements – so i guess the lesson learned is that there is a winning note that can always be said for good hardware as key in studios. (This also explains why Pro Tools HD DSP processing cards are must haves for big studios which never would rely on anything else do the DSP processing – only the HD cards.)
To further this point, I run both a Sony Vaio Laptop for one home studio running Pro Tools M-Powered and a Mac for my other home studio running Pro Tools LE (which is basically the same DAW software engine). But both of the machines when running a soft-synth have a different sound – same soft synth. The Mac sounds slightly better and a different character. The Sony Vaio is also good but a bit dull in comparision for the same soft synth – same preset – but also it’s own unique character! Its the components in the machines! But if I were to have initially settled for some cheaper PC instead of the Vaio, then it would not sound anywhere near my Mac like the Vaio almost does because i know the Vaio’s are made with pretty decent components, and the Macs even better components.
Now I understand why the craziest audiophiles insist that even the quality of a SPDIF or Optical cable matters – seems counter intuitive because its just digital 1’s and 0s – but you would be surprised.
I hope to one day be able to own a real pro studio with Pro Tools HD systems, but first I hope to be able to soon acquire the Axe FX that John and others have recommended in here. Apparently this is the “Virus” of all Guitar Modelers.
is there an advantage my EZX electronic drum pack has over the electronic drum sounds in my virus? or are the sounds pretty much the same thing. should i sell that pack because i got a virus?
alright, i finally got MF to sound exactly the way i like it with not a single complaint in sound quality, and clipping is now under control. Heres how i resolved everything… I figured it would be better for me to start with a preset from TT, and then tweak that.
But after reading the manual i still haven’t a single clue how the microphone assignment window works.
