Very Fun. Like the guitar sound and good mix. Agree the drums need a bit more brightness and maybe even more up front. But very pro sounding.

Holy Smokes. This one’s awesome!. Total pro mix! Hadn’t heard the Made Of Metal EZX before and they sound great. Other comment I made about cymbals seem much better with these.

Very good sounding. Only comment I’d have is the straight hats sound a little inauthentic. Superior’s hats aren’t easy to play IMO. They always seem like there’s a missing strike on them and they are always whooshing up. So when I hear 4/4 hat playing it can sound mechanical. I’d try using alternate ones in between or randomly or find diff kits with better cymbals. It was the NY drums SDK that gave me best hats.

NY3 sounds best to me. I may have to get that one. Even for extreme metal is might fit well. Metal Machinery SDX hasn’t quite grabbed me to use yet, I wish Metal! Was made into an EZX instead.

Thanks James!
The Tube Compressor, an Avalon 747sp is used on mixdown with the tube adding warmth and mild compression. I mix back to Cubase through it and export that to Wavelab to master. In a way I master as i mix hoping the mix sound is extremely close to finished so onlly mild EQ needed on master and just mass limiting and warming.
My mastering chain is all plugs – Slate VTM –> UAD Pultec EQ –> UAD Manley passive EQ –> Slate FG-X
I follow many of the EQ tips in the SOS Mixing Metal article to give each instrument its own space. Also many busses in Cubase with parallel compression.
This mix has gone through many revisions even changing from my post to last night. I switched out of the Metal! EZX to Metal Foundry to get more snappy drums as the guitars are so big and wide that the drums need to be thinner.

Love the solo part with the guitars chugging left and right.

Very wide and live sounding mix. I at first though they were real drums. Only thing I would change is to bring up the snare. It was very mashed sounding early on and still quite low as the groove got into swing.
