Nice looking kit there Chris!….so does the axis hi hat stand have spring tension adjustment?

Yes, you can adjust the tension to six presets.  I don’t have mine set as high as it could go.

    …I’ve got a TD-12 kit with a VH-11 hihat controller…I’m looking into upgrading/sitching the VH-11 but I’m curious if anyone has succesfully set up a 3-way trigger with TD-12?
I’m thinking along the lines of just mounting a Cymbal (3-way) and use an FD-8 or FD-7.
The extra output from the Cymbal, I would jack into one of the extra inputs of the TD-12…

    John,

I’ve built my own three zone hi-hat cymbal (normal function into one input, separate bell trigger into another).  My cymbal incorporates a canabalized VH-11 mechanism and works just fine.  If you look closely, you can see the VH-11 mechanism (cylinder) directly under my bottom hi-hat cymbal in this pic:

Even the hardest hits do not cause me to experience the result you are getting which leads me to suspect that your stand might just be allowing travel too easily.  The stand I use is an Axis and the spring tension is sufficient that the top cymbal does not move downward with the spindle without some foot pressure (i.e. doesn’t move down unintentionally when struck).

Here is a shot of my primary electronic drum set.  Everything is
electronic (right down to the cowbell).
