EZmix metal it is! Just what the doctor ordered. Too bad it’s hell buying these things. Now it seems I have to physically go to my store here and get them to order it. Why oh why isn’t it possible to get a download you buy online? Other plugin manufacturers seem to have no problem doing it like that. Yes, I know you can buy it online in some territories, but not here, as far as I can tell.
So, Andy Sneap presets, eh? On the headphones I have available here, it sounded a bit cardboardish (and the sound of all example tracks very similar), but there is probably some good stuff there.
If they could manage to fire up an easy tool to get a kickass kick drum sound, I will be one happy man. That is the hardest to do on your own when you don’t have a clue about mixing. Crossing my fingers for a metal EZmix edition.
Pre-processed kicks for metal would also be sweet, and another approach to the problem. I understand the reasons for having only raw recorded drums, but that’s rarely in high demand for metal.
There’s gotta be another library coming, or else it’s a huge letdown.
I am also hoping for Metal Foundry 2, with better quality. Not saying that the quality of the first one is bad per se, but there’s only a hihat from that one I use, the rest is just too dry and lifeless, and all the snares are too tight. The best sounding releases so far are still Avatar and Allaire. And I only use SD for metal.
I agree with the above. More crashes would be sweet. All shiny parts of the kit, in fact. Cymbals, hihats, rides.
Damn, the youtube teaser sounded and looked promising indeed. I just hope there is something for the old school death metal segment as well, not just “modern” metal with overly high pitched snares. Really looking forward to seeing what’s coming, though.
Youtube is blocked here, but I’ll check it out later today. A metal month sounds interesting indeed. Hope it’s something else than MIDI packs…
I need more sounds, and more EZmix presets etc. More metal related S2.0 mixer presets would also be welcome.
It would be cool if someone could give a hint about what gets written on FB for those who don’t want to be a part of that community.

Noted… but the only drummer I ever saw in the studio who used nylon tips was Jeff Porcaro… and that was over 9 years at Oceanway, 2 at Record One and 2 at The Complex with George Massenburg and Greg Ladanyi.Cheers,
Rail
I believe vinyl tip sticks are often used by metal drummers, to ensure an aggressive and consistent attack on the ride. I’ve used them exclusively for over ten years now, as I got tired of the ride sound getting dull when the tips started to disintegrate. The ride will look like shit after a while, though.
I’ve never heard of those drummers you mentioned, which tells me we may be talking about totally different drumming worlds altogether.
I was hugely disappointed with the Metal Foundry library, and I only play metal. I don’t like the sound of the cymbals at all, but I totally agree on what was written above about the snares. The Metal Foundry snares is a snapshot in time, and that kind of snare tuning and sound is on its way out already. The only thing from that library I use is the hihat, as it can be more open than on all the other expansion packs.
The best expansion pack for snares is the Evil Drums library, and the best chrashes by far is in the Allaire library. Finally some sustain and depth, which is sorely lacking in the Metal Foundry cymbals. Otherwise Avatar has the best kicks and toms for metal IMO.
One final point to get the rant out of my system is that there is only one good ride in all the libraries, the dry ride in the Avatar library (can’t remember its exact name). Strange that this one is the only one that sounds great out of all those rides available in all the libraries. All the rest are either too washy, or sound flat and like they are hit with a drumstick with a broken wooden tip. More “vinyl tip” sounds, please. Some attack and clarity is sorely needed.
Rant over.
I have a TD-20 kit myself, and I don’t get the impression that they’re that sensitive to…anything, really. Hence my tip to check if the pad does the same when connected to another input. My kit has worked flawlessly without any weird triggering malfunctions of any kind, regardless of head tension etc.
Try switching out the snare pad for a tom to see if it’s a faulty trigger/pad.
Fantastic product, for sure. Can we expect more presets in the future? Please say yes.
Edit: Tons more to use for kicks would be appreciated, as that’s the hardest thing to get to sound good.
You’re probably right about that, but I’ve never met a drummer who didn’t have a very clear vision of what drum sound he wanted
I guess that varies with the music style, too.
