So it is true – there is no upgrade path from SD2 to SD3. Gross. At Steinberg, for example, there is always an upgrade path, even if it is more expensive to skip several versions – but it does exist.
But what I think is really cynical: If you use EZ Drummer, you get an upgrade discount. Whoever uses the more expensive product SD2 gets nothing.
Really? Where’s the logic? That’s cynical.
I just wanted to use Black Friday and buy one or two SDXs. Then I saw Rock Foundry. But it’s not in sale and costs regulated 159 €. Also, the requirement is SD3. Damn – now I have to pay 159 € for the SDX and change my environment. BUT – I really want this SDX for a project I’m working on right now.
THIS IS NOW A REASON TO UPGRADE FOR ME – and not because it’s cheap. Any upgrade to my recording and mixing system must ALWAYS have a damn good reason. It’s not primarily about the money – it’s about the improvement I can achieve by upgrading versus upgrade costs and effort and risk.
BUT – I couldn’t believe it when I found out that there is indeed no upgrade path!!!! What?!?!
That would mean now that I don’t pay 159 € for this SDX, but 508 €. Is it still possible? If I would see an upgrade path for say 180 € or 210 €, I would do that now. In any case, the price should be lower than the upgrade for EZ Drummer customers.
But it doesn’t work that way. So why don’t I upgrade now? Because of the cost? NO!!!! But FROM PRINCIPLE!!!
Probably I would have got myself with a decent offer also still two SDX from the Sale. 2 x 95€ makes 190 € plus 159 € for Rock Foundry makes a total of 349 €. If there would be an SD3 upgrade for 180 – 210 €, the shopping cart would end up with 529 – 559 €.
And that included SDX Music City SDX has no added value for me, because I would never use it in my productions.
Toontrack Sales Manager – so you could have earned up to 559 € on me today if there had been an upgrade path from SD2 to SD3.
So I don’t pay a cent.
