Haha where the f#ck have you guys been! (This is Weston Super Maim). Holy sh1t – that riff at 1.36. Heavy. Good to finally hear some new stuff – it’s only been about… 2 years.

Thanks a lot guys! And by the way – if any of you want to be in the video for I Just Had Sex, just send me a clip of yourselves singing along (or doing whatever you like really) and I’ll edit it all together. Deadline is September 7th, more details here: http://www.facebook.com/AllOfSpace

I was dreading another load of generic djent… but this is actually pretty good! I like the dense sound you’ve got and the focus on melody. Well done for not being massively cliche (though minus ten points for the awfully djentastic band name). Keep working on the drum sound too – try and get away from the default DFH sounds.

Nice bright poppy sound. Try bringing in some vocal harmonies for the chorus – even just some oohs or something would fill it out. The lead vocal is maybe a little dry too? Good effort though!

Good job, has a slightly Helmet feel to the riffing. Very clean and crisp – if I was being critical I’d maybe say it was slightly too synthetic sounding, and maybe the kick is a bit too loud. But nice work anyway.

Cool song man – the music sounds great. I think you need to work on your timing for the vox though, and maybe the phrasings too – they don’t seem to quite fit with the music, which detracts from it as a whole. I’d bring the vocals down in the mix too, they really dominate it at the moment. But there’s a lot of potential there if you nail the vocals. Good luck with it.

Very tight playing and some decent riffs there – good job with the guitar. I like the guitar sound too, sounds fat and gainy but not too fizzy.
The drums sound really overcompressed to me though – I think you just wanted them to punch through the mix, but the punch itself is all that’s coming through. So for example the snare sounds like a really short drum machine sample rather than an actual drum. I’d experiment with your drum compression settings to let more of the natural kit sound come through – try (much) longer attack settings for a start. The guitars could come down quite a lot in the mix without losing their prominence and I agree that some more bass would be good.
But anyway that’s a decent attempt – keep practising!

One of my tracks (using Superior 2 Avatar kit for all drums) was the most requested track on Amazing Radio’s Audition show last week and will be on again today 1-3pm and Saturday 4-6pm UK time (GMT +1). You can listen on DAB in the UK or stream the show at http://www.amazingradio.co.uk

Good effort – the guitarwork is nice and I like the lo-fi drum sound, reminds me a bit of Sebadoh and Elliott Smit. But yeah the kick is very quiet. The first thing I’d do is… turn it up. Compression and eq will help too – I wouldn’t go over the top though, the song doesn’t need a huge death metal kick. Try to bring out the beater smack with eq, this will help it cut through the mix, and tighten the overall sound with a bit of compression. I would have said lowering the pitch would probably contribute to the kick sounding like a muddy thud though, so maybe reset that. Anyway good luck with it.

Haha – no djent crap… except for the fact that you’re using presets by Bulb, aka Mr Djent himself 😉
Anyway pretty cool tracks, I definitely hear some Pig Destroyer in the vocals. I think some bass would add meat to the tracks. Is that guitar double-tracked? If not that might be something to look into – hard-panned L/R guitars should give some more width to the songs. Overall good job though!

Good job man, mix sounds pretty good, low end is doing fine by my ears – it’s got some meat to it but the kick is coming through pretty clearly. As a small criticism, the bass maybe sounds slightly ugly at the double-kick part. By the way don’t bother buying a sub for mixing purposes, they’re notoriously terrible and won’t give you a clear picture of the mix at all.
Oh and vocals sounds really good and clear – what mic/preamp etc are you using? Voice is somewhere between Robb Flynn and Bruce Dickinson I reckon 🙂
