Hi,
so far I didn’t have any problems with registering and authorizing my toontrack products. I agree that illegal copies pose a serious problem to all software companies, but I’m also a little bit concerned about the methods that are chosen to protect software from illegal copying.
In particular, I’m concerned about the practice to bind a software licence to a generated computer ID. Whenever I decide to upgrade my computer system, there is a chance that it can not be recognized by my toontrack software anymore. Okay, all I have to do is simply to authorize my product with the newly generated computer ID, but there are restrictions on that. I’m just wondering if there is a certain point, where I directly have to contact the toontrack support, because I might have exceeded the number of allowed changes of authorizations.
Therefore, is there any reason why not to support usb licence keys? Apparently the biggest advantage of a usb licence key is its independence from the current state of my computer system. It’s still bind to my usb licence key, but I don’t have to worry about that any upgrades or changes to my computer system will affect my current authorization.
@Toontrack: do you think that a usb licence key support might by an option for you in the future?
I’m also wondering what would happen if toontrack didn’t exist anymore? Of course, I hope this will not happen, but it’s not a totally unimpossible scenario. I would really appreciate that such a case will be considered in the software policies and that toontrack will offer its customers a solution to use their software, even if toontrack can not provide any further support for whatever reason. This might also be another advantage of usb licence keys, that they might even survive the lifetime of a company
…alrighty, hope to see a discussion on this board regarding this issue.
Hi,
though a pretty long time since the last discussion on this topic, you should be able to Search the Forum for them.
In short, if you run out of Authorizations, you contact us and we look at your Auth history and issue new ones.
So far, the cons have outweighed the pros I guess in regards to the iLok solution.
Best Regards,
John
