Trigger acoustic drums with DFH

I really hope that someone can help me.  I am a drummer and I would like to use the DFH sounds live and have them sound the same as my final mix in protools.  I plan on using ddrum triggers and I would guess they would conect to something like the roland TMC6.  But then how would I get that to sync to DFH?  Do I have to have my Mbox and protools open during the live shows?  I am totally lost.  Please help.

of course. You will also need sufficient processing power to effect the tracks in real time. Realistically that is unlikely to happen on an MBox which has a fairly large minimum buffer hence you will *possibly* run into latency problems. That’s even before considering the delay the FX will add.

A better approach would perhaps be to process the sound in outboard as any instruments but again, the MBox *may* add a noticeable latency and if you will be supplementing an acoustic kit with triggers (as I understand) *may* create flanging artifacts detrimental to the performance.

Thanks for the reply.  Since I am using Protools and I’m fairly new to the game can you tell me what interface might work?  I will probably trigger only the kick and snare to save on memory but I do have 2 gigs on my laptop.  Do you think this combo will work efficiently enough?

as far as I’m aware the MBox Pro may allow you to reach acceptable latencies. The host computer horsepower will be critical however to process the sound in the box, if that’s definitely the direction you want to go in.

    what if I used something like the Alesis trigger i/o?  I have 2g ram on my laptop so I think I will have the space.  Or is it easier to just go the old DM4 or DM5 route?  Thanks for your help on this.  It means a ton.

Lemme ask a stupid question ….

Let’s take it to the studio – not a live situation.

I want to trigger an acoustic kit, but use DFHS as the sound (let’s say my pre’s are good enough, hence, I want to trigger the drums instead).

Would I need to go from the triggers to a brain, and then into my DAW? Or do triggers actually give off a click sound or something which I can replace with DFHS?

Just curious – as I have never messed with E-Drums or anything remotely close to it.

Can you use DDrum triggers with the TMC6?
If not, are the Roland triggers any good?

Anyone triggering drum sounds from EZX or Superior using acoustic drums? Does it work OK?

Doh!
Actually one immediate drawback I can think of is no way to trigger hi-hat and cymbals.
It’s ok for beefing up drums for live performance, but would be a bummer in the studio.
