Hello,
I am on the verge of buying a new laptop for my home studio.
I have some experience with EZdrummer 2 on a friends desktop.
Though i love the program i find it a pain to manually tap in the basic drums to start from on a keyboard.
I searched the internet high and low but i can’t find anything on how/if EZdrummer works with a touchscreen.
Will i be able to tap and record the drums by tapping on them on the screen, without latency, like garageband works?
So is it worth to spend the extra cash on a touchscreen laptop?
Or is it possible to connect a windows tablet as a extra screen to tap the drums on which would be even more convienient?
And while i’m at it, would a dual core i5 processor on windows 10 laptop be sufficient?
I will be using Reaper as DAW
The touch screen should work just as your mouse does, the difference is that you “click” with your finger instead of the cursor. If you don’t get latency by clicking with your mouse you shouldn’t get latency with a touch screen. There is nothing in EZdrummer 2 that will create latency due to the type of screen you are using. However, the sound card and the drivers you use will decide how high your latency will be. I have tried EZdrummer 2 on a Windows 10 touch screen computer, which worked just fine.
A dual core i5 should work just fine. Put some extra memory into your computer is my advice, 2 GB that’s standard in many computers tends to run out quickly when making music, since music programs tends to use a lot of memory. You’ll find the complete system requirements list on the bottom of http://www.toontrack.com/product/ezdrummer-2.

Ok thanks alot man.
I even contacted Toontrack support and they told me, though EZ2 was not DESIGNED for touch screen it should work fine.
I have just bought the latest version of Superior Drummer 3 and sadly that does not work with my touchscreen. I can click on the drums with a mouse but the touchscreen does nothing both when Superior Drummer 3 is launched stand alone or from my DAW. Touchscreen works fine in other applications.
Really disappointing – it’s the kind of thing I would have like to find out in a trial (but there isn’t one in Superior Drummer 3) – I hope they fix this but is still an issue 3 years on from this post!

The same post is answered here (so we can keep the discussion in one place): https://www.toontrack.com/forums/topic/sd3-menus-and-touchscreen/?view=all#post-2495468
