Maybe you mean that the installer freezes? The installer (“Sound Updater” in this case) is an application launched by the Product Manager. When the installer opens, you can open the log from its File menu. What does it say, how far does it get? Stops at a certain file every time?

The most likely reason for a freeze like this is that there is something wrong with the external hard drive, so that the “write” of data to a certain sector of the disk freezes.

Maybe it can help to use Disk Utility to run a “First Aid” on the disk.

Thanks for this. I was assuming that this was more an issue to do with the Toon Track Manager and how it’s related to the ‘Sound updater’ installer. After a certain progress of installation, I always have to force quit the Toontrack Product Manager app itself as it shows in the apple force quit drop down menu that it is ‘not responding’. Would this then have an effect on the progress of the ‘Sound update’ installer and stop it from competing it’s installation? I will try to run a first aid on the external hardrive disk- I’m hoping it’s not that as it’s brand new (only bought yesterday!)- it’s also 2tb and I have barely used up any storage on it.  When the Sound updater’ installer freezes, it doesn’t say anything or give an alert message- it also doesn’t let me quit the installation as it’s aware it’s not finished.

    Thanks for the speedy response!

Whenever you try to switch to PM, it scans how much is installed, so it is probably try to read from the disk where the Sound Updater is stuck writing. Force-quitting PM does not affect the installer, no.

    Hi,

I have run a first aid on my brand new external hard drive and it has not shown any errors or problems. Is there any other ways I can get to the bottom of why it’s freezing at the same point of installation every time?

Could you attach your SoundUpdaterlog.log here, please, from Macintosh HD > Users > Shared > Toontrack?

It seems to freeze when copying soundb47.obw.

Let’s first check if it’s the source file is okay. Please open Applications > Utilities > Terminal and paste the following command (line) there:

    md5 "/Volumes/My Hardrive/SL-SuperiorDrummer3_SDX_Part2/Contents/SL-SuperiorDrummer3/Sounds/soundb47.obw"

Then press Return and wait a while. Does it finish and does it show an MD5 checksum for the file?

    Hi Olof,

Yes I have run this and it shows the following MD5 checksum:

    MD5 (/Volumes/My Hardrive/SL-SuperiorDrummer3_SDX_Part2/Contents/SL-SuperiorDrummer3/Sounds/soundb47.obw) = 244b523a75a8f31ec74bcf68b5087f91

Good. Now try these two commands in the same way, one at a time:

    ls -l "/Volumes/My Hardrive/SL-SuperiorDrummer3/Sounds/soundb47.obw"

    md5 "/Volumes/My Hardrive/SL-SuperiorDrummer3/Sounds/soundb47.obw"

Do you mean to post these commands in the same place in: Applications > Utilities > Terminal and paste the following command (line) there?

Yes, paste each command in Terminal and press Return.

    It comes up with this:

    First command:-rwxrwxrwx  1 staff  583532544 10 Dec 12:09 /Volumes/My Hardrive/SL-SuperiorDrummer3/Sounds/soundb47.obw

    Second md5 command: MD5 (/Volumes/My Hardrive/SL-SuperiorDrummer3/Sounds/soundb47.obw) = 12d4edb5224709403640e65d6396c0b0

No idea what this means aha

So in the destination, this file is only 583,532,544 bytes large. It should be 1,361,506,336 bytes. The second command shows that it didn’t get stuck reading through the file at least. But the installer is unable to write more than 583 MB to it for some reason.

Try to manually copy soundb47.obw in Finder, from

    “My Hardrive > SL-SuperiorDrummer3_SDX_Part2 > Contents > SL-SuperiorDrummer3 > Sounds”

    to

    “My Hardrive > SL-SuperiorDrummer3 > Sounds”

Just tried to paste it in right location on the hardrive and it says ‘A newer item named “soundb47.obw” already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the older one you’re moving?’
