Of course this won’t go down well but I was actually excited by the announcement of a 60’s midi pack as opposed to just skipping by my fifth email of the month proclaiming it was, yet again, either midi or metal month somewhere. But a listen through the samples and all I heard was a session pro trying to sound loose and messy and just ending up sounding like an algorithm. I wonder if you would entertain giving a few real life character drummers a shot at creating a pack like this? The original Custom and Vintage had great playing with real feel. It sounded like it was that guy’s natural space. This sounds like an admirable effort to pastiche, but that’s not much use if the result is metronomic blandness with a few rushed fills. Where are the wildness and unexpectedness? Where are the lovely Ringo-isms and scattershot Moon-isms? Sometimes songwriters who play drums are the best candidates for that spontaneity, there’s another idea. I’m not criticising the drummer, but this goes to the core of your efforts with the sampler.
