In my studio the SD3 Toms seem to lack punch. They seem to have a cardboard quality to the sound that is hard to modify. I’ve tried cranking the GUI full bore & that helps a bit but it still sounds lame. Can you give me some hint as to what I’m doing wrong & what I can do to change this?
I’m assuming I must be doing something wrong because after hearing Nick D’Virgilio from Sweetwater play the SD3 sampler with the Roland Electronic drum kit, I decided right there & then that this was for me. That video sounds fantastic. The Toms sound very different there when Nick plays them so I’m assuming I’m missing something in my setup.
In the past my live kits have sounded very punchy by simply having the drummer play with more attack. I would use compression only to either level out the various Toms to produce a more consistent level or to extend the duration of the Tom. That same approach doesn’t seem to net the same result so I’m not sure what else to do.
