I’m posting this song as an illustration point for an EZKeys question over on the EZKeys forum – “Can EZKeys sequences be modified in MIDI to more closely follow a melody line”? Yes – I dropped the 8-measure INTRO sequence I chose, into my DAW, altered a few notes of the MIDI pattern to match my melody line, and the vocals do the rest then as the verse/chorus picks up.
Listen to the first 4 measures of piano Intro, and you’ll hear the sequence “as is” (I transposed from C to B, I think), but then starting at measure 5, I’ve modified the MIDI to add a few of my melody line notes – thereby creating a “signature” phrase out of the “stock” Intro, and introducing the listener to this melody, which the vocals then take up as the verse/chorus starts.
Sorry for the poor mix quality, I’m still working on it. But this MIDI-editing question came up and I wanted to provide this sample to show how I sometimes choose to modify an EZKeys sequence beyond just changing chords – once you’re in your DAW it’s also very doable to change things at the note level too. How easy this is, of course, depends a lot on the pattern style of piano that your original sequence is giving you. The one I chose, was also playing a bit of a different melody line and I was able to alter those notes to what I wanted, while keeping all of the piano “rhythm” parts, untouched.
In my “wish list” for an EZKeys2, I’ve mentioned that adding a MIDI editor function into the existing editor, would avoid having to do even this much in the DAW and you could complete the entire piano track even with MIDI note modifications, all in standalone mode!
Questions welcome. Enjoy. John

Thanked by: HenrikCorrection to location above – I’ve found that any time I upload a revision to a song on my website, it changes the location number in the link. So it’s best I give you a location to the main page, then direct you to the song. So it’s at my site at: http://www.johndandrea.com then just navigate to: Music / CD3 / Ten Years From Now. EZKeys and EZDrummer made this a cool song to record, and my friend Steve who wrote this song back in 1992, is an amazing songwriter. Enjoy.
