Hi. I’ve recently got a TD4kx2 roland electronic drum kit and hooked it right onto SD2 through Nuendo 3. Everything works lovely, except for one annoying issue I was hoping someone could help me with.
The hihat.
The hihat responds very strangely when using it with SD2, whereas when playing through the TD4 module it’s fine and can be used with no problems.
I read somewhere that as the pedal moves, midi information constantly flows to SD2, and that midi information does things such as..
Crossfade the closed hihat sound into the open hihat sound if you hit the hihat and lift the pedal shortly afterwards.
Or the opposite. Crossfade an open hihat sound into a hihat that’s closing, as you press the pedal down. This works very well and sounds nice
Here’s the issue: Crossfading from closed hits to open pedal sounds doesn’t work as well. When lifting your foot off the pedal while playing you can often distinguish layers of hihat sounds being intertwined and this results in very messy hihat sounds.
I can’t be the only one that has come across and noticed this, as this was happening straight out of the box. And I know that the issue is how the SD2 handles the midi signals the pedal sends, as the hihat sounds natural when playing through the module. Is this adjustable/fixable?

Glad it’s not just me thinking that way.
What Roland kits/ modules have you got Matt? Your profile says TD-4 and TD-12, where does the TD-9 fit in?
>
SD2.3, NYII, C&V, MC, MF, ED, Latin Perc, Twisted, Pop, N1H, Electronic, Classic, Funkmasters, Rock Solid, Blues, Indie-Folk.
Mate it is a revolving door. i Have been moving from my studio and downsizing for home and do some teaching and Ebay so i keep what is left around
TD-9 v2 module is a fav. The TD15 is well wicked but has a couple of things missing from the TD12 upwards.
At the moment i have TD4 on the kit hooked to this Mac running Logic.
In the house today is a TD9,TD12,TD20,TD20X and arriving is a TD 30, was meant to arrive today but is in customs.MADNESS
I kinda like em all but if i ignore on board sounds and focus on SD2 a TD4 is wicked value.
Not sure i really care to have dual toms but i used to be.
The TD12 is Mint and may sell under 600 on Ebay ( Funkyappledog ) tonight which absolutely stupid i should keep it.
A TD12 with Positional sensing (giving the snare edge shot)with a pad like PD105 or PD125 is probably the most compatible with SD2 as it will give you more nuance to “play” and with a VH11 or VH12 is excellent
The TD4 is me trying to keep myself on a tight budget but i prefer 2 crash, 1 splash/china and a 3 zone ride so really should be a TD9 and no less.
Hit me up if you cant find a TD9 that photo today was the one i will be selling or keeping ?????
