I am THIS close to burning my kit. Frustration is through the roof!
When I play my TD-15KV kit using the onboard sounds in the module, the kick pad responds as it should. Nice thick and heavy kick sounds.
When I use the same kick pad to trigger sounds in Superior Drummer, its totally awfull. I’m writing here in the futile hope that I can explain how I connect my kit, and hoping against hope that someone out there can find a flaw in my setup.
TD-15KV -> Midi cable -> Digidesign (now Avid) 002 midi in port -> Pro Tools 8.04 -> Instrument track -> insert -> Superior Dummer 2.31.
There is also a USB cable going from the TD-15KV module to my pc.
The “Midi in” light on my 002 is blinking constantly when the Roland kit is connected this way. (Im asuming this is as it should be?)
In the instrument track I’ve activated “Instruments” under window view, this actives a instruments field to the left of the inserts field on the track.
In this “instruments” field I’ve selected TD-15 – All channels as input, and Superior Drummer multiout 1-1 as output
On the instrument track it self the I/O has “No input” and “Analog 1-2” as output.
OK. Now to the reason I’m going bald. This is gonna be super hard to explain:
All the pads are triggering fine, and responding well to various EQ’s, Compressions, filters etc that I add to the buildt in mixer in SD.
The kick drum does NOT. I cannot get it to sound like a kick drum at all. When I left click the kickdrum in the overview in SD, it sounds tight, thick and heavy just the way I’ve mixed it, but when I hit the kick pad with the beater, a totally different sound comes out of my headset / nearfield monitors… The kick sound itself is hard to explain. Its got almost no bottom end, and there is a lot of high mids or highs, it sounds almost like its got phase issues. In short it sounds, ehm, totally broken, like nothing you want to hear from a drumset!
Since the kick pad works fine when I use the buildt in sounds in the TD-15KV module, Im assuming this total failure has got something to do with my setup in SD.
Ive fiddled around with the velocity settings in SD, but nothing really makes any difference. I’ve gone into “mapping” in SD, removed all the assigned keys and “relearned” the kick. SD recognizes my kick pad, triggers a kicksound, but it doesnt trigger the same sound as if Im left clicking the avatar drum with my mouse. (I might have said that allready…)
Phew, there, hope this made any sense what so ever.
ANY AND ALL help is VERY appreciated!

That could be an indication that S2 is receiving double simultaneous
hits. You mentioned that you are using both USB and a MIDI cable.
Perhaps that means that all MIDI is doubled.

Thank you for your quick response 😀
Isnt it rather strange that the kick pad is the only pad sending double signals to SD if that is the case?
Surely I would have heard it if all the other pads where sending double signals as well?
Also, when I play the kit and record drums on the midi map of the instrument track, the kick sounds fine when I play it back, so there is no double signals being recorded / mapped on the midi map.
Im at work now, but I will try removing the USB cable from the module to the pc when I get home, though I fear that will leave Pro Tools and SD unable to detect the kit (being a pesimist at this point)
Will post when I’ve tried.

PROGRESS!!
I did as you suggested, and unplugged the USB cable! Now the kick sounds normal and awesmoe.
Only problem now is that hitting record on the instrument track and playing doesnt record anything to the midi map.
Im gonna try and removing the midi cable and plugging the USB back in, hopefully that will fix it..
But yeah, your suggestion brought me miles closer to the final goal 😀
THANK YOU, SIR 😀

Just using the USB cable fixed all the issues. Thanks again!
