Superior Drummer Muted Cymbal Sound Not Triggering From Within Cubase

Not sure if anyone else has run into this issue but I’m a bit confused.

I’m using Cubase 8 and Superior Drums 2 and I’m having issues with the muted cymbals. When I play the muted cymbal sample within SD2 it plays fine however if I play the same note through Cubase’s VST drum track section (no midi controller is being used) it only plays the open cymbal and not the muted sample. I don’t have issues with any other drums being mapped (so far). I’ve verified what note is assigned to this muted cymbal through SD2’s Mixer->Mapping section as well and ensured it was correctly labeled within the Drum Map of the VST track. When I click on the Cubase drum track you can see the exact note being triggered in the piano roll in SD2.

Any ideas or similar experiences?

I am using the NY kit (Avatar I believe). This happens with any of my muted/choked cymbals so I don’t remember which note exactly (I’ve tested it with all of the cymbals). If I use the key editor and actually click on the piano key it plays the muted cymbal however if I place a midi note in the editor it doesn’t play the muted cymbal it just plays the standard non-muted sound albeit the sound is a little shorter than the actual main cymbal sound but it is far from muted/choked. If you’re using the Mute cymbal articulation, then the velocity of the note determines how long the tail is before the mute. Max velocity = shortest tail. What velocity are you using to trigger the mute articulation?

Scott that’s exactly what the problem was. I had no idea velocity affected the tail. When I increase the velocity to 127 it is a full mute/choke. I guess when I add a note it defaults to a lower velocity but when I press on the key it’s at 100%.

Nobody could answer this for me. haha.

Maybe not, but you answered it for ME – had the same confounding situation.
