Yeah, I wanted to upgrade my soft and instead of making a deal I wasted my time. Now, we have a simple equation: no deal = no money. Good business plan TT.

Luckily for me, I can manage situation by using another software which grows really promising these days. Unfortunately for you, I have to discourage people by telling them truth I haven’t know until today: that you don’t care about old customers of yours.

Anyway, everyone can make a mistake and should have a chance to make things right, so I hope some day after a hard lesson you now receiving you will change your mind and behave like men do.

Another SD2 user here unhappy that no upgrade path is available to SD3 (I don’t count paying full price as an upgrade). I struggle to find the logic of alienating loyal customers. I don’t expect indefinite support for old software but a discount to upgraders is a separate issue.

Just discovered there’s no update pricing available. I see an email went out but I apparently never received this (just searched my email for everything related to Toontrack, Superior Drummer, etc.). Would’ve been nice to know I had to upgrade in a timely manner.

I’m afraid that’s proof that they don’t care. I just don’t understand why. Upgraders won’t buy the full product, again, Toontrack won’t replace those customers. Who’s the winner here? I don’t see any, both sides lose.

I’ve just got around to considering upgrading to SD3 – had no idea the upgrade path had gone.

I too shall look at the competitors now, just as I did with Arturia and the rediculous upgrade prices they give to their current loyal customers.

Waow Toontrack;  Not greedy just a smart business model: Squeeze the life of customers that invested in you and helped you get the finances to hire George Massenburg. Sure you need money just like Apple and Co.

Wow – really, this just sucks. So, first Sonar says buy a lifetime license and then says sorry, we’re selling off Sonar and the money you spent on a lifetime Sonar license less than a year ago was simply wasted. Now, Toontrack did this with Superior Drummer upgrade. Gotta say, I’m not sure I want to spend anymore money on ToonTrack stuff OR any other DAW’s, plugin’s, etc. Maybe it’s time to say screw it and if it isn’t free/open-source don’t use it…

Oh, well, life/music/recording goes on with our without software that costs money…

    Very disappointed here…

Just echoing what’s been said already.

Disappointed by the discontinued upgrade price. Can’t really follow the logic here.

Easy sales to be made if they bring it back.

    Regards.

I use most of the Toontrack software. I’m very sorry for your behavior. I’m protesting. I don’t know why you’re acting like this. Do you think it’s nice to annoy your customers?

    Add me to the list.

Received no email that SD3 was even available. Found out about it via a third party retailer.

Of course that means no emails that the upgrade path from SD2 was time-limited either.

It’s difficult to overstate how much this sucks from a customer service POV. if you’re going to pull this kind of crap at least make sure everyone’s informed.

I’ve been a user pretty much since day one DFH→SD→SD2. Several expansions too. You’ll get no more of my business at this rate.

    Sure +1

I own Komplete Kontrol ultimate and anytime I can upgrade for discount price. Even more when the version is close to be upgraded you can get a 50% discount on the normal price. For sure Native instruments products are top quality but the difference is the company respects its customers.

I’ve read my way through a couple of these pages, and am finding myself agreeing with the people feeling betrayed. Here’s what I feel most have failed to articulate.

It’s fair for a company to offer introductory upgrade pricing when they have a new product out, the fact that the pricing ends doesn’t bother me. I’ve let that timer run out many a time and was happy to pay more to upgrade a product when the time was convenient.  The difference is there was still an upgrade path to thank me for being a customer. I still felt as though my investment in that company meant something to them. Toontrack is treating us all exactly the same as they would any newcomer, and that’s a jagged pill for most to swallow. They’re saying it means nothing to have purchased SD2 and have helped them develop their new platform.

And I don’t doubt SD3 is worth $400, I can’t imagine how difficult it is to record and package thousands of samples in an industry-leading, intuitive plugin format. I just know for me it’s not worth $700.

It’s true they gave 8 months notice, I honestly wasn’t paying that much attention. Even if I was, $200 is still a lot of money to spend on a new version of something you already have. I haven’t even paid SD2 off the Sweetwater card yet. Kudos to those who were able to take advantage of it, I made the silly assumption there’d be some slightly less favorable path forward if I chose not to, to at least pay off SD2 first.

Also true that SD2 still works. It’ll have to for me because I can’t bring myself to reinvest in a company that says “what have you done for me lately?”
