Hi,
Now that I’ve worked with the software every day for 2 weeks now, I absolutely love it. After reading that a few bugs are already being looked at and worked on, not to mention, reading the manual a few times. I have to say that a few of my earlier requests are less relevant.
The One thing that still bugs me day after day is this :
I want want to be able to have SD3’s plugin window in full screen in Cubase by double clicking it. I work with a 4 monitor setup and in a lot of studios I’ve been to, there seems to be this tendency to work with at least 3 monitors. That means we can dedicate a monitor to project, mixer, plugin etc…
Getting to the point, SD3 is so amazing that it deserves it’s own monitor. At first, I loved the idea of detachable tabs but the more I use it, if I had to chose, I would prefer a main full screen tab. It would ground my workflow to always have SD3 open in full screen on my right monitor.
Ok so I’ve requested this earlier and a Toontrack rep told me that he would look into it but it probably was up to the DAW’s architecture to enable full screen plugin windows. I recently found out that EWQL’s Play 5 engine is able to go full screen in Cubase 9.0.30 by either double clicking the header or clicking the upper right box (windows). This is actually weird because it’s not intended to, Play 5 cannot be re-sized and leaves black areas around the GUI. I’m not a programmer and this is probably a bug or design flaw for EWQL integration with Cubase but doesn’t it proves that it’s possible for plugins windows to go full screen in Cubase.
With flexible detachable tabs, Toontrack has shown us that they are pioneers in terms of advancing workflow ideas and layouts. I think the next step is being one of the firsts to offer a full screen plugin window that is not an accident like the Play 5 engine.
I’ve attached screen captures illustrating this.

I know that… Didn’t you read my thread? Working with it every day for 2 weeks and reading the manual a few time would make me a total idiot if I didn’t know that by now. Using the corner arrow is a half done idea and a temporary solution and not what I was looking for. I would like the full screen to work like it does in standalone. Re-sizing it with the corner arrow is not as practical. It never fits quite perfectly and always needs to be resized whenever I open a new instance. Part of your advertising campaign is based on window layout, showing the plugin in full screen on multiple monitors omitting the fact that what you are showing us is in standalone mode but in real work scenarios, most of us use it as a plugin in a DAW.
I love the fact that you seem to listen to users in forums and have a team of reps giving us quick responses but I could have waited a few days for a more complete answer to my request.
Thanks,

Sorry. I didn’t realize that you knew of the corner feature as a workaround.. I was only trying to help.

Yes and like I said, I appreciate the quickness or the responses. I’ve never seen such involvement and support from actual employees in the forums. It is most welcome. That said, simply pointing out the corner without further explanation to mentioning it was a workaround to a potential workflow improvement felt like I was making a pointless request to begin with.

Can you please check the VST version of EWQL? They may be able to do that because they use the VST 3 system. We currently don’t use VST 3.
Are there any other differences between SD3 and EWQL that you are aware of (how they are loaded etc)? We’re trying to figure out the differences…
I can add that the possibility to detach windows doesn’t make a difference in maximizing the main window. It would look the same even if we couldn’t detach windows…

I’ll see if I can see any other differences and get back with the VST version. It probably is the latest, Play 5.0.4.
About detachable tabs, I know that one does not prevent the other and it’s a very nice feature to have. I was simply saying that personally and this only my personal preference but after 2 weeks or so, I rarely detach them as keeping track of all my plugin windows is already hard. Have them full screen and able to snap half screen and corners with windows shortcuts is a more appealing feature. I know that it’s not common for plugin windows and it would be an innovative and daring feature that must have it’s set of challenges. I work full time as a video games music composer and sometimes films. As we all know, projects are often gigantic, my workflow is getting more and more precise and any feature that can simplify my workflow is always welcome.
Thanks you so much for investigating, Like I said in an earlier post, I’ve never seen this kind of involvement from the company team in forums. Other software companies should do the same.

The size you last used should be remembered the next time you start Superior Drummer 3 – but that might not be good enough in your case?
