I know Toontrack’s policy of not discussing products that are in-development so I don’t expect a reply from a TT rep.
The tools you develop are some of the best I have ever used in terms of stability, sound quality and ease. They allow me, a non-drummer and non-engineer to generate drum tracks that sound real and amazing to accompany my bass, guitar and vocals and then mix and master them with a few clicks of the mouse yielding great and convincing results.
EZdrummer 2 has some amazing features for non-drummers. Tap 2 Find, Song creator & Edit Play style. As Toontrack advertises, it is amazing for songwriting and song construction. However, when it comes to the final mix, I need Superior Drummer to get a sound that has the depth, the intricacies and the realism I need.
You can use EZdrummer 2 to mold your midi and then use the midi out feature to hear the sounds through Superior, but there are a few inconveniences. It complicates the work-flow, the kits don’t have the same amount of pieces so the editing won’t be perfect using edit play-style. It would make a lot of sense to be able to do all of this within Superior, the flagship product.
It’s time for Superior 3 with a fresh GUI, Tap 2 Find, song creator, edit play style, the ability to use pieces from different kits or expand a kit without creating X-drums all while retaining backwards compatibility for DFHS and SD2 kits. It would make sense for the core library to be the one recorded for EZdrummer 2 at British grove studios in SDX format. Why not have the new SDX packs be 48k instead of 44.1k? It’s time for the flagship product to have it all. Charge what you want for it. There should be no need for your customers to have to compromise when Toontrack has the tech and the programmers to make the ULTIMATE drum vst.
I realize it’s important for you to have the distinction between the EZ line and the Superior line from a marketing point of view. You may feel that adding the best of EZ to Superior will result in less EZD sales, which may be true but those who want it all will be wiling to pay more for SD3 and EZdrummer will continue to serve the demographic who wants a tool offering mix ready drums using less hard drive space and resources at a lower cost.
More than likely it’s about code… and expense, mainly consumer expense…
And as it is now, drive space and data speed really is not an issue,,,
2 products for 2 types of users, that encompass all users in between,, remarkable actually…
I’m fine with EZD2 and it’s less expensive EZX’s and the ability to utilize SD2 capabilities from a EZD2 to SD2 Upgrade,, you keep EZD2 and well, midi is just midi,,,
Sure they can still improve on a great product, and as I’m sure they know, they will,,,
44.1k or 48k … in general most would not know the difference since it’s finished usually in mp3, and at best 44.1k anyway,,,
And sure for the professional image can be written higher even with Studio One … but it still pops out to be mp3 or 44.1k to the consumer.
This sort of topic is speculative, and sometimes controversial,,, which is why it’s really not useful to us users, in a forum,,,
All pie in the sky, until it can hit ya in the eye 😉 lol,,,
Have fun 😀
+1 for SD3

Just posted this on someone’s request regarding EZ Drummer, but I think this applies to this as well.
I’d like bigger drum sounds myself which I’ve posted about before. I mean truly studio ready drums with a few extra options for tweaking (EQ, compression, reverb, other effects, etc.) if desired. Yes, I know Superior Drummer has these features and I own that software as well. I’m talking about making the next EZ Drummer somewhere in between the two. Basically, I would like to see EZ Drummer as it is with some more editing options, but simplified. Superior Drummer is great, but not all of us are experts on mixing drums. Thanks.
Just read this on http://www.weiss.ch/products/saracon
It would appear SD3 is in production!!
“Doing the new Superior Drummer III Core Library, I’m reminded yet again that I can’t live without Saracon!”

Officially announced today!
Oh well, got so discouraged I switched to BFD. Would it have killed TT to let the consumers know we were not waiting in vain???
Anyhow, I’m very happy with my new sounds so no regrets here
I prfer it when devs don’t hype anything and just deliver a finished product. It’s still a month away from launch and hope that they offer a grace period to those that bought SD2 recentl;y.
I also added BFD3 to my toolset and what a massive disappointment its been stability wise and issues using older libraries. Updating to SD3 will be a no brainer for me. Years of stability and an already great gui and toolset 🙂
