When using SD2 inside Sonar 7, I see no way to switch the midi controller to “E-Drums”, like you can in Toontrack Solo. Was this an oversight that will be patched in a coming release?
On a related note: I see so many requests for SD2 edrum templates. We were all sold by the flawless Nir-Z demo. But now we’re left to tweak all these little settings inidividually. It would be great if Toontrack could provide templates to their customers.
Great product though, despite the early pain points!
I too was wondering the same thing. Is there not a way to choose “e-drums” when using Superior as a plug in?
Seems a bit of an oversight to be able to do this in TT Solo but not using it as a plug in.
Hi,
the ‘E-drums’ preset/CC Offset is a generic setting made available in the Toontrack solo host and is a real-time transformation of notes and CC data.
Superior 1 had Templates which provided starting points with several brands’ modules and was alterations/modifications of the configuration setup of the plugin.
Superior 2.0 works in a completely different manner since it is a completely new plugin, it is not the old plugin with some new features, that’s why you can’t (at least not yet) open Superior 1 Save files in Superior 2.0. Bringing the generic Toontrack solo real-time transformation into Superior 2.0 would not be optimal at all compared to what is planned.
Part of the idea is that you can make your own Templates in a very easy way and apply them on a loaded project as MIDI presets; with the bonus that you can change from the GM Extended preset to trigger via your edrums or vice versa. This is all part of a grander scheme though, that unfortunately did not make it into the release but is being worked on. The alternatives would have been to postpone release a few months or buggy software, which aren’t really alternatives.
So, when it comes to setting up your own ‘Template’ as of now, Joe King has made some posts regarding on how you clear assigned notes and assign notes to your triggers; the most sensitive part being the Hihat. When all notes being sent from the HH controller are assigned to the HatsTrig and HatsTipTrig respectively, the HatsCtrl receives CC4 (or whatever CC# your module sends), the last thing you can modify for HH response is the HatsCtrl’s ‘Soft’ and ‘Hard’ ‘Velocity Ctrl’ values (do not forget to switch on ‘Edit Articulation only’).
When you’re done, you save this as a User MIDI preset which you recall when you start a new project. If you always use the same drums, you save the entire project.
Best Regards,
John
