Building our first E-drum from an old acoustic kit we have as the room sound is terrible and can’t afford decent drum mics and the cost of making the room up to recording standard.
Have all the piezo’s we need (plus more) and an Alesis Trigger IO. We’ve tested the setup and maped it all and all works fine!
But theres a problem with sound levels, we’re trying to dampen or silence the drums/cymbals almost completely.
What would be the best way to do this? I’ve thought of buying practice mats and putting them under the skins so it feels a bit more natural to our drummer but not sure if this would work well enough and don’t want to waste more money experimenting with gear as i’ve already wasted over $400 in equipment for recording guitars only to find out i didnt need it as it was only one thing in my signal chain was the problem (whoops).
What would be the best way to dampen the cymbals too? Not only for sound purposes but also because as you know cymbals vibrate which is giving me a hell of a problem with multiple triggering, but if i “chocke” it (i think thats the right term… I’m a guitarist after all) i dont have that problem as it only triggers when hit.
Would a rubber mat stuck to the bottom with double sided tape solve this?
This kit is purely for recording and practicing… not for gigging… so the quieter we can make it the better as we’re going to run some speakers into the recording room for when we jam.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
P.S If anyone can give me a link of where to buy those Roland foam cones that’d be awesome too 😀
Mike.
Why can't you just pull the trigger?! I wish, i wish, this nightmare would end... goodbye!
If you can afford it some mesh heads will certainly make a difference
