If it’s sharps or flats depends on what key you have EZkeys set to. Default it’s set to C sharp and that would mean only sharps. Select another key in the orange display to change this.

Normally you never show both sharps and flats, only one of them. This will lead to that sometimes the correct way to show a chord is double sharp or double flat. Since this is somewhat confusing for the regular user (me included) we have choosen to not do this but instead select flat instead of double sharp (if in sharp) and vice verse. Confusing? Yes… but that’s the way music theory works I’m afraid. Check the included music theory document for more in depth explanation 🙂

Awesome, thanks! An instant and easy solution.

For some reason I really do prefer processing chord names with flats rather than sharps, and of course playing a Bb chord was not looking right being displayed as an A-sharp. But yes–it was as simple as changing the key, thank you. 🙂

    Default is C major/ A minor here.

The Key of C should show Eb/Db/Bb/Ab sure some break the rule and call a Gb F# by putting the F# infront-no biggie but
Flats come first and it is also easier .Double flats are very rare but
some keys have 2,3,4 sharps .So i understand the simplification but it is a bit junior.

A problem may arise for Zeddd after getting his keyboard to “appear” correct his midi files (if he uses them) will also be transposed as this is not independent.
    Thats fair enough but defeating,
Why can’t we have a way of overriding what the GUI shows to be musically correct and/or this Psuedo C key of all Sharps.
It should be a preference item request at least.

It might be nice if EZKeys would remember the last key used and stay at that setting, so that the next time you open the program it doesn’t default back to C major. I don’t doubt that there are probably some users who would not like that feature, but I certainly would.

Choose your key and go to ‘Menu’ and select ‘Set as default project’. This also works if you want a specific library to load as default if you have more than one.

    Awesome, awesome, awesome!

Thanks Scott. Not only does this remember the key, but it also recalls my favorite custom piano (which I’ve been manually having to select each time I launched). This is a time saver, and some good thinking on the part of your design team.

    Have a great weekend!

It’s listed as Bbm (b flat minor) 🙂

I agree, this is too bad, and below explanation about how music theory works does not convince me…

I found a workaround as I also prefer to see a flat chord than a sharp. I use MIDIculous free version  that shows in real time which chord I’m playing. When EZkeys shows a Fsharp MIDIculous shows me a Gflat and I’m happy with that.

You can download this free app from Gospel Musicians website https://gospelmusicians.com/midiculous/. It is a great app to work on jazz  midi files at a slower tempo and see the chords on the virtual keyboard and chords names clearly and properly named. Currently working on Danny Boy K.Jarrett version, I could never do it without …
