Since I’m probably not getting a demo from TT, if anyone picks up SD3 and you wouldn’t mind, I have a couple of questions if you could do some Experimenting.
1. Is it possible to do cymbal swells with all the SD3 kits?
2. Can you tap cymbals with the stick tip? Not talking about the ride cymbals. I know you can tap those. I’m talking about the soft tapping sounds you get from lightly striking a crash bow with the stick tip as opposed to striking the edge.
3. If anyone has a TD-25k kit with a real HH stand, can you get smooth articulation from open to closed bow or edge? In the past, I’ve had some struggles getting the HH to trigger smoothly from the closed sound to open. SD2 had a few different curves and I got close but not as good as the stock Roland module.
4. If you pull say a snare from another kit, can you utilize the mic bleeds and room mic?
5. Do you have the ability to turn the snare wires off on all snares with all kits?
I know some of these questions might be answered elsewhere out there in the web and I just haven’t run across it yet. Links would be appreciated.
Hi,
I’ll answer as best I can.
1. Yes. You can adjust the Smoothing parameter to fit your style.
2. The articulations are there; Crash, Bow Tip, Bow Shank, Bell Tip and Bell Shank. It depends on your hardware triggering and how you set things up in SD3.
3. With the more user friendly controls and visual feedback, it should be much easier to MIDI Monitor and adjust your velocity thresholds and CC thresholds for HH Openness.
4. Yes. And if you pull a Snare from another library, SD3 will try to match the available microphones.
5. No. I think that with the different Tools and physical Snares there are about 35 Snare choices. If all would be available with and without snare wires through all microphones, you would have to add massively to those 230GB’s. If I’m counting correctly, there are 7 entries with wires off but for 5 different Snares of which 1 Snare with Sticks, 2 with Brushes, 3 with Rods and 1 with Felt Mallets.
