Hi,
SD3 looks very impressive from the videos.
I’ve a couple of queries.
Are all the sounds in the SD3 new, or are there some SD2 sounds in there too?
Will my SDX libraries (Music City etc) work with SD3?
Thanks.

I would really hope this is gonna be possible. When updating EZD1 to EZD2, our old EZX worked just fine in EZD2.
It would be very rude of Toontrack if we couldn’t load our expensive SDX in SD3!
See the S3 FAQ

Regarding the sound library; it was recorded by award-winning engineer George Massenburg at Galaxy Studios in Belgium. It also includes approx. 350 vintage and classic drum machine sounds to layer as you choose.

Thanks Scott, I hadn’t seen the FAQ.
Looking forward to Sept!

One item missing from the FAQ…at least I didn’t see any mention of it….
Will our current/old EZX packs work in SD3 the way the work in SD2…or will SD3 only support SD2 SDX packs…?
I think the EZX packs will work.
In the FAQ, under the paragraph “What is the difference between Superior Drummer 2 & 3” are 2 picture files.
The right hand side one has this entry..
“Combine Drums from all installed Toontrack Sound Libraries (SDX & EZX)” which is ticked for SD3.

Yes, EZXs and SDXs will work in S3 and all MIDI packs and Producer Preset Packs.

I’m curious about that reverse… are there going to be SDX libraries released that don’t work for SD2?

Yes, eventually. And the SD3 Core lib cannot be used in SD2, of course.

Scott,
How much overlap is there between the SDX 2.0 expansions and the massive new sound library? Are any of the drums from the SDX2 expansions utilized in the new core library? Or is this a complete redesign on the kits altogether?
Also, will there be any updates for the new sound libraries to take advantage of the new core library features such as the height mics? Or is that just for the SD 3.0 and forthcoming expansions?
A bit of criticism: the timing of the upgrade is annoying since I just purchased a Superior Crossgrade a couple months ago during the Superior Summer promotion, along with a couple of discounted SDX expansions. Granted, I’m not expecting Toontrack products to stay the same forever, but doing a new product announcement right after a Superior Crossgrade promotion does feel a bit like a bait and switch.

The S3 library contains all new sounds recorded at Galaxy Studios by George Massenburg.
Regarding updating previous SDXs and surround :
No. previously released SDX libraries will only ever contain the amount of channels that they were released with.

Hi,
you open SD3 and go to ‘Settings > Libraries/Paths…’ then click ‘Add Library/Path(s)…’ and navigate to the ‘SL-Xxxx’ folder in question and ‘Open’.
