Hi all,
Saw this new product: http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/21/line-6-peripheral-brings-midi-and-iphone-closer-than-you-ever-ex/
…and thought that it would be really amazing if Toontrack could team up with a hardware company of some kind to build a e-kit solution for iPhone/iPad.
In other words, the hardware company designs an interface (Audio Out + MIDI in), you plug your e-Kit into the interface via MIDI, there’s a Toontrack app running on the iPhone that you can configure from your laptop’s SD2 software (i.e. you build the kit on the laptop, then transfer it to the iPhone) and the e-kit is triggering the iPhone app that’s pushing the superb quality drums sounds out through the Audio Out in the interface hardware (to the PA).
This way, I wouldn’t have to be nervous about taking my beloved MacBook pro to gigs, I just take the iPhone.
Thanks
Hey… looks like this link could provide a little boost to this idea!!
http://www.ithinkdiff.com/ipad-camera-connection-kit-to-support-usb-audio-interfaces_455012/
If the iPad supports class-compliant audio interfaces, then I could plug my eKit into my iPad via MIDI and have “SD2-express” running to generate high-quality drum audio into an amp!!!
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but has there been any discussions on this? Also, take a look at what Alesis has at NAMM http://www.alesis.com/studiodock. If it was an issue of the hardware interface lacking before this would solve it, however I don’t know if it would be feasible with the RAM specs (256) of the ipad.
Has anybody measured latency on the iPad? The drum stuff I’ve played with (at least using the touch screen) lagged a bit too much to use for serious performance or studio work. Just curious what the limitations are….
