I recently acquired a nice set of V-Drums. After much trial and error, I successfully recorded myself playing the kit “live” along with a bunch of pre existing audio tracks in Presonus Studio 1. However, the triggering left a lot to be desired. For example, hi-hat hits were much quieter and ghost notes on the snare were much louder in the S1 instance of EZDrummer 2 compared to using the V-Drums connected to the EZDrummer 2 standalone instance. The mapping itself is fine and happened automatically, it’s just like there’s way less sensitivity when using EZDrummer in S1 if that makes sense.
This is my first time using E-Drums for MIDI recording in general. Perhaps some of you out there have experience, advice, etc, in getting all the performance subtleties that a nice set of V-Drums affords accurately represented in S1 or DAWs in general. I messed a little bit with some of the TD27s deeper trigger settings but it feels like I could just be missing something basic here.
Here is the signal path for those who care to know: Roland TD27 — USB -> Mac (Sonoma 14.1.2) > Studio One 5 Professional > Instrument Track > EZDrummer 2
I’ve made an almost identical post in the Presonus forum, to which a helpful community member said the following: ...If the sensitivity is different between the EZ Drummer standalone and within Studio One, I would honestly reach out to Toontrack support and ask. Both should/are receiving the same MIDI stream, so my thought would be that some setting(s) within EZ Drummer standalone and plugin are different….
Thanks!
the velocity to volume ratio is one of the most annoying properties of toontrack libraries, all are different, the stock SD3 library is really quiet, even if your module sends 127 the cymbals sound quiet, so what you need to do is check your module sends 127 for your hardest hits and then increase the gain in the master volume, I have mine for the SD3 stock library clean presets at +8dB, but for the Fields Of Rock Expansion for instance you need to dial it down to -1dB or -2dB or you will blow your head off.
