Treated myself to a Christmas present of EZD2 plus the Jazz and Reggae EZXs and MIDI packs. Using them with a variety of DAW software (still figuring out which one I want to buy) and so far everything works great. My request is for tips on creating and editing grooves inside EZD with only a mouse and keyboard. I’d rather not have to bounce MIDI back and forth between EZD and the DAW if possible … that’s just a pain!
For example: I create a 4 bar groove and start recording in EZD (standalone). Suppose I want a simple kick, snare, hi-hat groove. I can “play” the kick drum by clicking with the mouse, but there is no way to set the velocity as I’m playing. Once I’ve recorded some notes I can Edit Play Style and adjust the kick drum volume there, and it affects all the notes that I’ve currently recorded. So what I end up with is to record the kick hits that are the softest, turn them down via Play Style, then record the kick hits that are the next-softest, turn them down (plus the first batch) via Play Style, etc. Needless to say, this is also kind of tedious, and since i’m new to EZD I figure there has GOT to be a better way.
Any hints, tips, or suggestions to make mouse-only groove creation and editing easier? its also possible that I’m just missing something fundamental, so if so please let me know. I’m always willing to be told I’m wrong 🙂
