Has anyone installed a mesh head on a Remo practice pad as described in this thread??: http://www.toontrack.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=35196 I made mesh heads for my acoustic kit without any issues. But, putting a mesh head on the Remo, doesn;t seem anyway to get a tight tension at all. Basically can push in the middle of the head an touch the bottom.
Hi Rony, I have built some triggers from remo practice pads this way (the internal trigger was a bit different though). It was a long time ago. The tension was “correct” and the results not that bad. By reducing the diameter of your mesh head, it may be possible to get a tighter tension but to be honest, these heads have a tendency to get looser over time. As far as I remember, I tried various things with the remo pratice pads, like putting the whole piece of foam back into the pad, etc… (but always kept the home made mesh head). Then I switched to shells made of flexible woods or PVC pipe (far better! I still use them). I will attempt to find my old remo triggers in order to check the tension but cannot promise anything (they are somewhere under the roof, probably behind a lot of other stupid and heavy things ^^). All the best, P.
