    Hi.

I own both McDSP FilterBank/MC2000 and Waves SSL 4000 Collection bundle. All these plug-ins sounds great, and it’s up to me (and every other recording/mixing engineer) to pick the best tool for every task at hand. Although I’m very impressed with Waves SSL I will continue to use eq/dynamics from McDSP/Eventide/Digidesign/Sony and others. That’s because they are good-sounding plug-ins, and I know them very well.

Furthermore, I don’t think it’s fair to compare AC1 to the G-Master Buss Compressor. McDSP’s Analog Channel contains two plug-ins which set out to emulate analog channels and analog tape machines. The G-Master Buss Compressor is based on one very famous and great-sounding console with optional analog emulation. It’s a kick-ass compressor…and then some. You know…the ol’ apples vs apples…

However, I do see your point, GORILLA. Waves SSL 4000 Collection bundle sounds great, looks terrific and I feel good using it. I actually get inspired by this bundle, and the best mixes are still yet to come. That would be when I know these plug-ins as well as the others I own.

    Cheers.

I just recorded a quick riff using the ssl plugs.  I used the presets from the ssl channel strip on the instruments and haven’t tweaked at all.  I used the camco kit from C&V.  There’s no other effects on the drums at all.

Thanks tux, I think I might try to do something with it.

I still can’t believe that these plugins sound so good with the presets.  Someone more talented than me could make them sound amazing when properly tweaked.

These are my current must haves.

    GORILLA, you rockin’ primate!
I owe you big time for the tip on Altomusic.com.
I got my SSL bundle at half the price compared to buying it at a swedish dealer with a “fantastic deal” on the bundle.

    Best Regards,
    John

    Hey guys!
The SSL sounds REALLY GREAT and I mean – great. I am testing it in demo mode right now
and I am gonna buy it.
Here is another link from me:

    http://www.ursplugins.com/

They are kind of emulation of good ol’ analog too. They offer demos as well as rentals (!!!!) which is coooool.
BTW- I tried their 1980 compressor/limiter yesterday. They have some really nice presets- a few “fairchilds” and
some “LA2A” style (their names are a bit different I guess) and I have to say I like theese too. It should be interesting if
someone with UAD can make a comparsion :). Actually I do not know if I deciede to go for SSL or URS yet… Probably both but what to get first? And the thing is that it is probably not necessary to have them both. BUT THEY BOTH (Waves SSL and URS plugins) are soooo cute 🙂

The other plugin I love for drums is Metric Halo Channel strip (didn’t I mentioned it somewhere else on theese forums?)
This MH Channel Strip is a-w-e-s-o-m-e and it has a lot of nice nice nice -very nice presets.

And finally the two “plugins” I love most: RED 3 and Vt747sp . But theese are used as (external) I/O plugins ofcourse :))

God, I am still dreaming about big Neve mixing console. Or SSL AWS900 …

but I don’t know, the plugins are really getting better and better theese days. Thanks for that!

Hey…. Glad you all like these KILLA’ plug-ins!!!!! When I first seen them, I thought “Yeah so what, they have the SSL Logo”. And once I tried the demo, I knew I wanted them!!! But right now, I’m tied up in some 3D work and haven’t seriously stress tested these bad boys.
They are nice. Yes, AltoMusic and Big Jon have great prices!!!! Sometimes,I don’t know how they do it. But they do! If I get a tip on some more KILLA’ plug-ins, I’ll definitely let my D.F.H. Family know about it as soon as I do!!!!!

And yes, the URS plug-ins are nice too! Easy on the CPU also. I have the N’ Series and dig the scroll wheel feature they have!

    Keep it Heavy!!!!! m/

McDSP’s CompressorBank, FilterBank and MC2000 are really nice plug-ins. Extremely good-sounding and versatile. They make, as the SSL bundle, DFH Superior and C&V sound “record-ready”.

While I completely agree that most of McDsp’s plugs sound really good, I  don’t think that AC1 sounds like any high end desk I have worked on, SSL, Trident, Neve, etc. Furthermore, IMHO, AC2 does not impart the sound of analog tape.

I love the compressor and filter plugs though. They sound great.

I totaly agree that usung the right tool for the job should be key. I still love my other Waves plugs.

I found another “killas'” I could not leave alone. Especially I love their Valve plug at every fckin’track it is possssible to plug it.
And the Reverb unit which allows to choose only a “early reflections” engine for example (nice for a kick)
